This is a variant that uses an 'on the side' type of lead arrangement. Again, I'm not going to claim to be definitive on the merits and uses of this rig - merely show how they are constructed.

These are the components.

Again I'm using the leader and rig tubing as per the inline setup. The lead is a korda 3oz 'Arlesey' lead, with the swivel cut off ( more of which later ), tail rubber and a korda safety clip.

The first step is to thread on the tubing and tail rubber as per the inline set-up. ( see Step 1 here )Onto this you thread on the safety clip, which I'll look at in detail.

A. These are the basic parts, the clip and the tail rubber. The weight goes onto the arm at the bottom of the clip. The idea is that the lead can be pulled off of the clip if it gets snagged up leaving the clip and the mainline free. The tail rubber hold the lead in place on the arm of the clip.
B. First trim down the arm - this allows the lead to detach from the clip more easily in the event of a snag-up.
C. The lead is clipped on to the arm. I prefer not to use swivels on weights as they are often too small to pull over the arm and break free.
D. The tail rubber is pushed on over the barrel and arm to hold everything together. Note that the rubber is not pushed all the way down, just enough to hold the lead in place.

So, thread the safety clip on over the mainline and tie on your swivel leader.

Push the swivel into the barrel of the safety clip. This must be securely held in the barrel ( Korda's barrels have a retaining ridge to hold the swivel in.) The swivel must stay in the barrel to hold the safety clip in place so that the lead comes free and NOT the swivel.

Attach the lead - job done
