![]() Brooks Park, Buckeye Lake GREAT WEEKEND....and now after posting up the pictures off the digital I'm sitting here pondering over all the memorable moments and great bankside company I enjoyed this weekend. Hmmmm...many memories...Miso_Ohio (Sean) diving to save CrappieLooker's (AK) rod pod...the 4:30 saturday morning BBQ'd burgers by Johnstown John...looking to my left and right and seeing so many folks fishing for carp (on purpose)....catching my 3d Buckeye Lake mirror carp in 12 years fishing it....Misfit (Rick) trying to land a jet skier with 2 rods......watching a young man (Andrew; 13) gather info about carping; he managed to land some of his own as well and was quite an accomplished net man at the end of saturday.....the shore lunch of Lake Erie perch sandwiches and wings (thanks Tpet and Miso_Ohio)....getting to meet a great couple from Wisconsin where I first started carping over 40 years ago (thanks for bringing them with you Phil)....and the conversations/banktime over the course of the weekend with 23 other anglers enjoying a great fish...the carp. Where to begin and what to write????? ![]() Crappielooker..workin hard !! The Tazmanian Carper..hot rod..too many fish to count ![]() Chefs at work....deep fried Lake Erie Perch and buffalo wings....Tpet and Miso_Ohio ![]() Me (Bob/rrbski)...my 3d mirror from Buckeye Lake since 1991 when I first started fishing it Want to first thank all who attended...ya made my weekend...thanks bunches. I arrived bankside friday afternoon around 2 to find CrappieLooker already in the fish....he'd arrived thursday and had been hard at it...the local Meier's store is wondering where all the canned sweetcorn they had went....had they forgot to order??? :) He must've caught 50 carp throughout the weekend....good show. Folks were coming and going all weekend as their schedule allowed....best count I can come up with is 23. CrappieLooker, Miso_Ohio, Tim, CW and myself fished the whole weekend with only shower or nap breaks away from the bank. Nap??? That brings up another memory :D Woke up bankside chilled sunday morning around 3 am...pulled out my lines and headed for truck....socks were very wet from a late night slip on the rocks. Anywho..turned on the heat in the truck...hug my socks on the visor...turned off the truck and fell to sleep. Not something I recommend to anyone...especially if the sun's gonna wake you up to hot cab in the morning...whew !!!! those socks were bad. :) Anywho....GREAT turn out folks..thanks for a super time. ![]() CWCarper.....this wasn't his biggest...but his first of the outing ![]() Larry Kinsler...1st one he caught Friday night ![]() CrappieLooker/CarpieLooker...one of toooo many to count....Tazmanian Carper ![]() Andrew (Tpet's cousin)...great young angler...picked up very quickly...great bankside company The weather was great on friday...until late evening...then the rain hit....glad I had thrown my brollie/shelter in the truck :) and lasted until around 2 pm on saturday. Around 4:30 am there was a small break in the weather and Johnstown John broke out a small grill and charcoal and treated Miso_Ohio, CrappieLooker and myself to a grilled burger on some great garlic buns...hit the spot...thanks John. Ya left a tad too soon Tim and CW. By 2 pm saturday though it had burned off and the sun came out. Shore lunch time!!!!...compliments of Tpet and Miso-Ohio, we had a great lunch of deep fried Lake Erie perch sandwiches and chicken wings. Thanks guys...it was GREAT !!!! ![]() Hookline&Sinker (Bill).....Saturday morning was kinda wet out ![]() Miso_Ohio (Sean)...Mr. UltraLite and most excellent chef. Saved CarpieLookers whole rig from going in the drink too ![]() Tpet (Shawn)....our deep fry specialist...thanks for the Lake Erie perch The carp were very cooperative throughout the weekend. I think most everyone caught at least one with most catching several, dependent on how long they were able to be with us. Nothing huge, but very high spirited...Brooks Park is not known for large carp on Buckeye Lake; but has lots of them...avg was probably about 8 lbs...many doubles were caught...with the largest going 14 lbs 4 oz (lucky me) :)....and the hot rod with the most fish was CrappieLooker...constantly chumming a little and often with sweetcorn in a concentrated spot. Mirrors are very uncommon at Buckeye Lake, and I think 3 of them were caught as well. ![]() Misfit (Rick)....shows he can catch em from the bank too ![]() Phil Davenport (center) and friends from Wisconsin...glad y'all could make it Larry Kinsler demonstrated his competitive paylakin skills Came in and found the last couple of fish had fallen to wheatie boilies or sweetcorn....went into his van (a mini feedstore/grocery store) and mixed up a wheatie flour/potato flake/cornmeal/sweetcorn packbait....molded it around a hair rigged yellow plastic bead...and was in the fish. Received several positive comments on tips you passed out Larry...good show. ![]() Larry Kinsler with an evening carp Tim....made a homemade set up of transmitter/receiver bite alarms by using 2 two-way radios and various other components from Radio Shack....then wired everything to his Fox MX bite alarms...Carper ingenuity...good show Tim. ![]() Tim's homemade bite alarms Another memory just came to mind....Sunday morning Miso_Ohio (Sean) and Tim were talking bait and rig information with a carper who had happened by..... I was getting ready to bait up my rigs and he was interested in watching...anywho...we went through the hair, bolt rig, packbait, chumming, safety rigs etc. I started off hair rigging a snowman of pineapple/bananna boilies (Euro bait and rig)...packbaited it inside of some unflavored Buckeye Blend (NC paylaker bait method)...dribbled some Mellow Fruiti Superior flavoring on the whole works and finished it off by rolling the whole ball in a container of powdered custard (South African baiting technique)...a very "international offering"....made me hungry looking at it too :) Anywho...cast it out...backleaded it...and before I could get the boilies on my second rod...my alarm went off...landed a nice common. Perfect (not repeatable) ending to a demo...Just looked at him and we all laughed. He then asked me to do it again for his buddy...said sure,...but can't guarantee the same ending (it didn't) :) His buddy happened to be another Ohio CAG member...Tom Griggs...great to meet you Tom !!! ![]() TimJC...worked hard...congrats Tim ![]() Sorry, can't remember his name (friend of Miso_Ohio) 1st carp I think....and a fine looking one at that In all, we had 23 carpers in attendance at various times throughout the weekend...4 of which have attended all 3 this year (East Harbor, StoneLick, and Brooks Park)....CrappieLooker (AK), CWCarper (Clayton), HookLine&Sinker (Bill) and myself.....and 12 that have attended 2 of the 3 events. That makes 60 different GFO/CAG carpers that I've had the pleasure of meeting this year in Ohio...and we're only half way through our events...don't get no better. ![]() Me with a late night/early morning common My final thoughts are those of thanks and appreciation to all GoFishOhio (GFO) and Carp Anglers Group (CAG) members....someone once said, "thanks for the memories" and that I am....see ya next time and good carpin to ya Buckeye Bob |
