Champion of the Queen Awards

CAG's most prestigious award

About the COQ

Since the CAG inception, the Carp Anglers Group “Champion of the Queen” award (sometimes referred as “Protector of the Queen” award) has been used to acknowledge exceptional achievements in promoting CAG and carp angling in North America.

The Carp is the Queen of Rivers: a stately, good and very subtle fish
Izaak Walton, 1653.

Since 2002, this award is dedicated to Bud Yancey, former CAG President.

September 27, 2002

John (Bud) Yancey
In recognition of your selfless efforts and outstanding leadership in the promotion of carp angling, we offer our profound thanks.

You took over CAG at a crucial time in its development. It had suddenly grown from an informal group of about 40 persons to an organization of over three hundred avid anglers, all of whom wanted a little more structure and discipline in the club. You provided that and, at a great personal sacrifice of time, money, and frustration, brought it to the state it now enjoys. Without you, CAG would simply not exist. We owe a huge debt to your vision and hard work.

Nomination process, award ceremony

The Champion of the Queen is nominated by the CAG President and Vice-President. We may have one or two “champions” per year.

Suggestions for possible champions are welcome from any CAG member. Please contact cagstaff@carpanglersgroup.com to do so.

The award is delivered to the winner(s) at the CAG plenary meeting, in September, during the CCC. The winner will also receive an honorary lifetime membership to CAG
