  1. Geez, this is really hard. I would have preferred to separate commons from (non koi) mirrors from kois though. There were beautiful commons in this lot, and somehow they are at a disadvantage in such vote. But heck, Pat is the boss here, and this is indeed a ton of work, so... up to him! Great contest in any case.
  2. You got my vote for the most stunning fish of all...
  3. Might be better to have three separate contests? One for (non-koi) commons, one for (non koi) mirrors, one for kois? Anyway, I love this purple koi. Absolutely stunning.
  4. This is a cool contest. Should be followed by the ugliest carp contest! And I finally put my hands on my third submission... Nope, not a mirror, just a torpedoe beast...
  5. Although I have to say that its little sister was VERY cute! Same thing, very dark fully scaled, but MUCH smaller!
  6. This 29lb fully scaled dark beauty remains one of my best memories so far.
  7. You can also donate them as prizes for the TAKC junior event.. Just saying...
  8. Er... I didn't mean it this way. I absolutely enjoyed reading your article, and my comment had nothing to do with the quality of the article. I just meant that the article which has the most pictures that would truly benefit from color pages should be the one in there. That's all I am saying. Sorry, didn't mean to offend you.
  9. I think this was perfectly fine. And anyway, how well an editor is doing his job should really be judged over 10+ issues to see how the various facets of carp fishing are properly balanced in the long run. I know all too well that the stories do not come to the editor by magic, and you will have to trigger them in numerous cases. This is where the big challenge will be for you... Good luck! Just one suggestion (which is probably in-between the editor and the publisher): given the new (cost-optimized) format mixing B&W pages and color pages, I think that special care needs to be given to the selection of the article (and related pics) that will benefit from the color pages. In this case... well, I'm not sure the choice was optimal.
  10. Bill and Stewart, are the deadlines still the right ones?
  11. Hi Bill, we actually did something along those lines a few years ago. This wasn't about "the other half", but about "lady anglers", which... well... is often the same thing. I'm glad we tried, and we had a few nice articles, but it proved REALLY difficult to find contributors past the first few articles. Not a good reason to give up, on the contrary, this shows that we really need to work to get the "other half" on the bank, but... just that you know... it's tough! Now your perspective is a tad different, this isn't necessarily about the other half fishing, understood, and that's an interesting idea. I'm curious to see how this will pan out. Maybe I can convince my wife to do something along those lines. Or maybe not!
  12. Since this is actually a donation payment (and the Paypal receipt says so), the individual paying for the item can use the receipt to save some tax dollars, right?
  13. Will be interesting to see if somebody is going to bid more than $49.99 on this one!
  14. Come on, no more takers? Don't tell me we have to let JD bid again...
  15. All right. $106.78, then. And JD is not allowed to bid until somebody does!
  16. Hey... Where are those pics, Mark? Are we bidding on something that doesn't exist?
  17. Great idea, but isn't there a way to leverage on eBay to manage the bidding and payment process? (shooting in the dark, I didn't look at it, but I doubt we're the first ones doing something like that)
  18. And remember that the primary author of each of the two FFF stories selected for publication will get a $25 voucher from our sponsor Tres Flores for boilies & maize. Bill, please tell me once you've made your final selection, so that I can send their prize to the winners.
  19. I vividly remember waiting two hours in severe cold before you got one of those while it took me minutes to get one... So you can do it! Just have to work a bit more on your timing... Nope, sorry, no news from our busy webmaster on the registration form being frozen . We still have four weeks ahead of us, so no panic! Speaking of extreme cold... Would be great to see a story from the Winter Carp League guys? As a side note, I now have a pretty long list of sponsors, and I am pondering to assign one prize to a good write-up or two... Maybe the ones Bill will select for the NACA... Just to motivate writers!
  20. Thanks, Bill, great initiative, much appreciated. For sure, I will not have the final tally ready by Jan 5th, but stories are always much more important than ranking for this event, so... keep up the good up. And please make sure to include somewhere Monty's great drawing!
