  11. FFF 2019 - Post ALL Carp Entries/Captures here! This “FFF 2019 - Post ALL Carp Entries/Captures here!” thread is where you will officially post all of your photos/entries of FFF 2019 carp captures. 1. The photos posted on this thread and only this thread will determine all Hall of Fame recipients (those who catch a carp by 6:00 a.m. on January 1) and all the winners of the fishing award categories (First Carp of 2019, Monster (Heaviest Carp), Baby (Smallest Carp), Emperor Persistence (Most Carp), and Scubadoc (Heaviest Mirror or Leather), Lucky 13 (First 13 carp caught)). 2. Both the successful angler and the captured fish must be pictured in each photo/entry you submit. If you are fishing alone, you’ll need long arms for a “selfie” or a camera with a timer. Angler with his/her carp must be indentifiable in the photo. In other words, we must be able to see your face and the fish in the photo. 3. Please submit only one photo/entry per post. In other words, if you have 10 fish photos to submit, please submit them in 10 separate posts. This will keep your caption information concise and without confusion. You can make your posts at varied times if you wish, as long as they are all posted by the FFF 2019 deadline of 1:00 p.m. (EST) on Friday, January 4, 2019. Please be careful that you don't post duplicate entries of the same fish. 3. Please type within each photo’s post the following caption information: A. Your name (first and last). B. The weight of the captured carp in pounds and ounces. If it’s a mirror, let me know. C. The time of the capture (when the carp was safely in the net). Please include the AM or PM designations when reporting time. 4. To provide further verification of the First Fish and Hall of Fame awards and to provide verification that all entered carp were caught on 1/1/19, I encourage you to use the time-stamp/date-stamp option on your camera when a photo of you and your fish is taken. Make sure the camera's date and time settings are accurate before you begin fishing. However, if you don't activate the time/date-stamp, or if your camera doesn’t allow that option, your entry will still be accepted. This is CAG. We have faith in the honor system, and we have faith in your honesty and integrity. 5. The best way to post a photo is to drag it to the the bottom of each posting window or to choose a file as indicated at the bottom of each posting window. If you are having problems with the photo posting options, I will take your photo and caption information via e-mail and post the photo for you. However, you should know how to post photos on the forum, so please don’t abuse this option. E-mail me at fjrink@comcast.net or pm me at FJR1. I'll need your e-mailed entries at least two hours before the January 4 deadline to allow me to process and post the pictures by the posting deadline: 1:00 p.m. EST, Noon CST, 11:00 a.m. MST, 10:00 a.m. PST. 6. Every and all fishing award entries must be posted on this thread by 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (that’s Noon Central, 11 AM Mountain, 10 AM Pacific) on Friday, January 4, 2019. No exceptions! I'm not going to nag you about posting carp entries and posting them on time. That's your call and your responsibility. If you post an entry after the deadline, your entry will not count! In addition, there are those who may decide not to post when they see that their entry will be beaten by another. This FFF 2019 is transparent because all of us can see the entries on this thread in real time. Just keep in mind that there are many separate awards in addition to certificates and Hall of Fame designations. I am also sure that your fellow CAG members would love to see photos of your FFF 2019 results, no matter where you stand in the prize contest. I primarily volunteered to coordinate FFF so it wouldn't die and so anglers would have an opportunity to continue participation in this popular CAG event. The participation statistics and numbers comparisons to past and future years are all secondary and of little importance to me. If you post your FFF 2019 fish/photos, I thank you and appreciate your willingness to participate in the true spirit of the First Fishing Folly experience. If you opt not to post, that's your call. I respect your posting decision either way. Please see the carp submission sample on the next post. Don't forget to register for FFF 2019 by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018. Registering much earlier than that, like right now, is always appreciated. Thanks.—Frank Rink, FFF 2019 Coordinator

  15. This “FFF 2019 - Post All FFF 2019 Sunrise Photos here” thread is where you will post all of your photos of FFF 2019 sunrises. The FFF Sunrise Award goes to every FFF 2019 registrant who submits a photograph of the first sunrise of the year. The primary intention of this category is to share some fabulous January 1 photos with fellow CAG anglers. In fact, if it’s too foggy, cloudy, snowy, or rainy, you can still take a picture at the approximate time of sunrise. The picture may or may not include a fish, but it should include at least some kind of indication that you are fishing (water, rod, pod, net, etc.). Anyone submitting a sunrise picture earns an FFF 2019 Sunrise certificate. _____________________________ 1. You must be a CAG member registered for FFF 2019 to submit a photo. 2. All who submit a photo on this thread will receive a special FFF 2019 Sunrise certificate for download shortly after the conclusion of the event. 3. Weather on January 1 is not always conducive to a clear sunrise picture. If you can't see the sun, you may take a picture at the approximate time of sunrise and still be eligible for the Sunrise award. 4. The sunrise photo has to include some evidence that you are fishing (water, a fish, a rod, a pod, a reel, an angler, etc.). You are welcome, however, to also include fish, people, food, pods, vehicles, buildings, bridges, etc. 5. The best way to post a photo is to drag it to the the bottom of each posting window or to choose a file as indicated at the bottom of each posting window. If you are having problems with the photo posting options, I will take your photo and caption information via e-mail and post the photo for you. 19. FFF 2019 Competitive Categories and Prizes Registration for FFF 2019 will be open on Saturday, December 1, 2018! Here is a peek at FFF 2019 contest categories and prizes: Who are the winners and what are the prizes? You should really participate in FFF 2019 for the challenge and fun of catching a carp on New Year’s Day, but there is a good chance that you will actually win something! Prizes will consist of carp fishing items or gift certificates. Thanks to CAG for soliciting vendors for prizes that will have a value of $700+. In addition, I will put together some downloadable, frameable certificates of achievement for winners that will be posted on an FFF 2019 forum thread for download. A sample for FFF 2019 follows (Click for a larger image): Anglers will designate, at registration, if their FFF 2019 venue is in a North Zone or in a South Zone. Please refer to the map below. There is no guarantee that it will be cold above the line and warm below it. It is just a line. However, it gives more anglers an opportunity at some prizes and recognition. Other than for the FFF 2019 First Carp/Lucky 13 Awards and the FFF 2019 Jerome Adventure Tale Awards, there will be two award packages (one for each Zone) for each of the weight categories. The time to be recorded is the local time at which the fish is safely in the net. The FFF Emperor Persistence Award: Total number of carp caught by the angler. This is a quantity category. Winners will be those catching the most carp during January 1, 2019. The required pictures of the angler holding every fish plus accompanying data (time, weight, angler’s name) must be submitted. Winners from each Zone (North and South) will receive a prize valued at $25 for first, a prize valued at $15 for second, a prize valued at $10 for third, and a downloadable, frameable certificate. 5. The FFF Scubadoc Mirror Award: Biggest mirror (or leather) carp caught during the FFF (in honor of Dr. Neil Stern). The required picture of the angler holding the fish plus accompanying data (time, weight, angler’s name) must be submitted. Winners from each Zone (North and South) will receive a prize valued at $25 for first, a prize valued at $15 for second, a prize valued at $10 for third, and a downloadable, frameable certificate. 6. The picture may or may not include a fish. Anyone submitting a sunrise picture earns an FFF 2019 Sunrise downloadable, frameable certificate. After all, you have to be out at sunrise with camera and carp gear for a photo (no small feat in itself). We will create a separate thread for submission of sunrise photos. 7. The FFF 2019 Hall of Fame. Anybody crazy enough and skilled enough to catch a carp of any size on January 1, 2019 between midnight and 6:00 a.m. (local time zone) will be entered in the very select FFF 2019 Hall of Fame. The required picture of the angler holding the fish plus accompanying data (time, weight, angler’s name) must be submitted. All winners will receive a Hall of Fame downloadable, frameable certificate. 8. The FFF 2018 Jerome Adventure Tale Award. Many of you have submitted interesting FFF summaries with accompanying photos in the past. In honor of Jerome Moisand's quick wit, photography skills, way with words, and dedication to CAG and FFF, we are, again, including a prize category for the best written summaries with photographs of your 2019 FFF adventure. Those will be judged by a panel consisting of Jerome Moisand, Iain Sorrell, and myself. Winners will receive a prize valued at $25 for first, a prize valued at $15 for second, a prize valued at $10 for third, and a downloadable, frameable certificate. 9. All submissions must be posted on the designated CAG forum thread by 1:00 p.m. (EST) on Friday, January 4, 2019. An angler may not win more than one award per category. In other words, you may catch the first, second, and third heaviest carp in your zone, but you will win only the first place prize. Keep in mind, however, that you can win 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in multiple prize categories. Award prize donors have been finalized. Once winners are announced, I will be asking for your e-mail addresses for prize distribution. Huge thanks to CAG for funding the prizes and to CAG President Iain Sorrell for arranging/organizing the prize package! First Fish and Lucky 13 (13 anglers catching the earliest carp of 2019) and Jerome Adventure Tale (Written and Pictorial Summary of your FFF 2019 Experience) award winners will receive vouchers for CAG Store purchases! Huge thanks to Linear Bait Co. and Brian Wisnowski for providing vouchers at a highly discounted rate to CAG for FFF 2019 prizes! Monster (Big Fish) award winners, Emperor Persistence (Most Fish) award winners, Baby (Small Fish) award winners, and Scubadoc Mirror (Big Mirror) award winners will receive vouchers for Linear Bait Co. purchases! I hope to have awards announced and certificates available for download by Monday, January 7, 2019. Good luck! You must register by 11:59 p.m. (your local time) on December 31, 2018. Registering much earlier than that, like right now, is always appreciated. There is no fee for this event, but you must be a CAG member to participate. Thanks. FFF 2019 - Detailed Rules

FFF 2019 is over! CAG’s FFF 2020 will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2020! I hope you will consider participating. Thanks to the Carp Anglers Group (CAG) for funding the prizes, to Linear Bait Co. and Brian Wisnowski for a generous discount to CAG for Linear Bait Co. vouchers/prizes, to Jerome Moisand for helping judge the “Jerome Adventure Tale” category, and to Iain Sorrell for prize solicitation, for helping judge the “Jerome Adventure Tale” category, and for his continual support and leadership as CAG president! Biggest thanks to the 83 anglers who registered for the event and to the 22 anglers who submitted entries. You captured 106 carp weighing in excess of 900 pounds. Not bad for the conditions that many of you faced on 1/1/19! I have sent messages, either through the CAG Forum Message system or through CAG’s Facebook Messages, to the prize winners. Those messages include your voucher code if you were a CAG Store voucher winner and/or a request for your email address if you were a Linear Bait Co. voucher winner (so your voucher can be coded and finalized). If you are a Linear Bait Co. voucher winner, please respond to me with your email address by Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Thank you! It was an enjoyable event for me in the planning, execution, and participation (even though I blanked this year), and in seeing some incredible catches, stories, and photos. Thanks to all involved and congratulations to the winners! Tight lines in 2019! Dr. Frank Rink Coordinator of FFF 2019, FFF 2018, FFF 2017, FFF 2016, FFF 2015, FFF 2014

    FFF 2019 - Detailed Rules

CAG's First Fishing Folly (FFF) 2019 CAG’s First Fishing Folly is back for a 16th year! FFF is an enjoyable, challenging, world-wide, CAG event held on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, during which registered anglers can fish anytime from 12:00 midnight to 11:59 p.m. They enter their photographed catches in any number of FFF contest categories (first carp of the year, total number of carp captured, big fish, small fish, big mirror, etc.). Participation takes some strong will-power, a willingness to face the elements, a touch of goofiness, and maybe just a tad of craziness to go fishing for carp at all hours of the day and night on January 1, 2019! Registration will begin on Saturday, December 1, 2018, or perhaps a few hours earlier than that. Thanks to CAG President Iain Sorrell and the CAG BoD for giving me the opportunity to coordinate the event for a sixth straight year. CAG will generously provide up to $700 worth of event prizes. That CAG support gets the prize package to some nice levels. An added plus - there is no entry fee for participants! You must simply be a CAG member in good standing to participate. I will summarize below a few reminders for FFF 2019. I encourage you to sign up on the 2019 FFF Registration thread when it becomes available on December 1, and I look forward to your participation. Have fun. —Dr. Frank Rink, FFF 2019 Coordinator Here are some 2019 FFF guidelines that apply to you: 1. No need for a fishing partner (although it is encouraged). It’s tough enough convincing our significant others to allow us to fish on New Year’s Day, and it can be even tougher finding a fishing partner to serve as a witness, especially for the wee hours of January 1. Even though partnerships and group angling are encouraged, individual anglers will be allowed to participate in FFF 2019 and submit catches and related information without a witness. The honor system will be in place relative to your submitting accurate weights and times. Keep in mind, though, that you are still required to submit a picture of you holding your catch (your face must be showing) for every fish/entry you submit. You better be good at taking “selfies” or at using a camera with a timer. Just be safe out there if you are alone! 2. There will be two Fishing Zones to better spread the prize package. North America will be split into a North Zone and a South Zone. Check the FFF 2019 Zone Map carefully to determine which Zone you are in. Other than for the First Fish of the Year and related Lucky 13 category as well as for the Jerome Moisand FFF 2019 Adventure Tale category, all other fishing awards will be given both to anglers fishing in the North Zone and to anglers fishing in the South Zone (see map below (you may click on images for larger versions)). There is no guarantee that it will be cold above the zone boundary line and warm below. It's just a line. However, it gives more anglers an opportunity at some prizes and recognition. 3. All sunrise photos earn the photographer a Sunrise certificate. All who submit a sunrise photo will receive a certificate touting their work. Getting out of bed and taking a sunrise photo on January 1, 2019 is no small feat in itself and deserves some recognition. The primary intention of this category is to share some fabulous January 1 photos with fellow CAG anglers. In fact, if it’s too foggy, cloudy, snowy, or rainy, you can still take a picture at the approximate time of sunrise. A separate thread will be created to submit and share sunrise photos. 4. The contest will be completely transparent. All registrations, contest entry submissions, and award announcements will be made within threads created on this FFF 2019 main forum. That means that you should know how to post a photo on the forum. In the case of extreme difficulty, I will take your photo via e-mail and post the photo for you. I will crunch the weight data, post results, and announce prizes within a week of the submission deadline. I realize that the announcement of winners will not be a big surprise, but I like the open, transparent aspect of posting all photos and data on a thread accessible to all. It also gives you a chance to check my skills of adding pounds and ounces and to make sure I haven't overlooked anyone. 5. The contest will be completely free. There is no fee to participate, but, as noted, you must be a CAG member to register for and participate in FFF 2019! What are you waiting for? Registration begins on December 1, 2018! 6. Registration deadline. You must register by 11:59 p.m. (your local time) on Monday, December 31, 2018. Registering much earlier than that is always appreciated. A registration thread will be created on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Thanks.—Frank Specific Rules for FFF 2019 1. Go through a tough negotiation with your significant other, and, hopefully, get “permission” to fish on January 1, 2019. To count, a carp must be hooked and landed on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 between midnight and 11:59:59 p.m. 2. Although partnerships are encouraged for this FFF 2019 adventure, individuals are allowed to fish on their own throughout the duration of the contest. No witness is needed for your catches. We trust your honesty in recording and reporting your catches, times, and weights. We are CAG! 3. Please follow property access restrictions and local laws. You may use as many rods as locally allowed, and you may prebait as much as your DNR deems acceptable. Please catch carp with a single hook. Exhibit proper carp care with appropriate nets, weighing mats, and slings. Practice CPR--catch, photograph, and release. 4. All carp must be both hooked and landed on January 1, 2019. It's fine to cast a rod and start fishing on December 31, but make sure any fish you submit are hooked after the stroke of midnight on January 1, 2019. We are counting on your honesty and sense of fair-play. The time a fish is hooked must be after midnight. A carp will not count if it is hooked at 11:59 p.m. on 12/31/18 and landed at 12:01 a.m. on 1/1/19. As indicated in rule #5 below, the exact landing time of a fish is the time it is safely secured in your net. That is the time you submit on your entry post. 5. (THIS IS A RELATIVELY RECENT RULE CHANGE) a. For contest purposes, you must record and submit the landing time and weight of all your captures. b. The exact landing time of a fish is the time it is safely secured in your net. c. For contest purposes, a photo of you holding the fish or of you with the fish on the mat must be taken and submitted for all your captures. Your face must be in the photo. Your camera's date and time stamp on the photo would be nice, but it is not required. We trust your honor. d. When you post the photos on the designated FFF 2019 forum thread, caption it with your name, the weight of the carp in pounds and ounces, and the time of capture. Don't forget to tare your weigh-sling. If you are fishing solo, the same photo and recording requirements apply, so you better be good at taking “selfies” while holding a carp or at handling a camera with a timer. 6. Only carp designated as Cyprinus Carpio (common and mirror carp) count. Other varieties (Crucian, buffalo, grass, silver, etc.) do not count. 7. Even though non-members are welcome to accompany CAG members and fish with them during FFF 2019, the actual contest, awards, certificates, and public posting of winners are reserved for CAG members only. CAG members must register for FFF 2019 by 11:59 p.m (your local time) on December 31, 2018 to be eligible for awards and acknowledgments. Now the fine print. Your participation in CAG’s First Fishing Folly 2019 automatically binds you to the following waiver of liability: 1. In consideration for receiving permission to participate in the Carp Anglers Group First Fishing Folly on January 1, 2019, I hereby release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue the organizers of the event, their officers, families, servants, agents and employees (hereinafter referred to as "releasees") from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or relating to any loss, damage or injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or to any property belonging to me or another, whether caused by the negligence of the releasees, or otherwise, while participating in the Carp Anglers Group First Fishing Folly on January 1, 2019, or while in, on or upon the premises where the Carp Anglers Group First Fishing Folly on January 1, 2019 is being conducted, while in transit to or from the premises, or in any place or places connected with the Carp Anglers Group First Fishing Folly on January 1, 2019. 2. I voluntarily assume full responsibility for any risks of loss, property damage or personal injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or any loss or damage to property owned by me or another, as a result of my being a participant in the Carp Anglers Group First Fishing Folly on January 1, 2019, whether caused by the negligence of releasees or otherwise. 3. I further hereby agree to indemnify and save and hold harmless the releasees and each of them, from any loss, liability, damage or costs they may incur due to my participation in the Carp Anglers Group First Fishing Folly on January 1, 2019, whether caused by the negligence of any or all of the releasees, or otherwise. 4. It is my express intent that this Release shall bind the members of my family and spouse, if I am alive, and my heirs, assigns and personal representative, if I am deceased, and shall be deemed as a Release, Waiver, Discharge and Covenant Not to Sue the above named releasees.
