  9. Clear Lake Folly! As with the past few years I decided to visit Clear Lake (Northern California) for the 2016 FFF. In some respects the trip was a great success, in others it was a real folly! I managed to catch a total of 5 carp between about 1am and 4am, a great success by my standards. Unfortunately I was not able to weigh a single one as the on/off button on my electronic scale had frozen to such an extent that I couldn't get the darn thing to turn on. Oh well at least I could record my catches with a few nice photos - no such luck. After catching my first carp I quickly set up the camera only to find the batteries had run out. I always carry a spare set and quickly dug these out and put them in the camera. I set the self timer and positioned myself with my catch, the flash went off and I put the fish back in the water. After re-casting the rod I decided to check the photo but could see nothing but a black background! Damn, something had gone wrong. I setup the camera and tried a test shot, this time no flash... After spending 15 minutes messing around with every setting I could find I still couldn't get the flash to fire. So that was to be it for the rest of the night, plenty of carp came my way but I was unable to weigh or photograph any of them!! Despite the problems I have to say I really enjoyed myself, I eventually reeled in both rods just after 4am so I could get some sleep! Next year I will be better prepared.. Thanks to Frank for organizing, without the competition I would have never ventured out! Ian MorrisClear Lake, CA
