  1. Appreciated - given this is a 5 year cycle for surveys, next one won't be until 2020 - I am hopefully some positive change can be made to benefit carp - will certainly provide feedback here as to what changes, if any, are a result by 2016.
  2. Thanks Brian ! Carp are actually on the game fish list in Colorado and thus do have a small measure of protection, though there are no limits on the # that can be taken. Creel/slot limits would be a huge step forwards, if not on a statewide basis, for some of our precious trophy carp fisheries and rivers.
  3. Thanks Miguel, appreciated - every comment counts !
  4. Bob, a valid point. Yet, I think it does help yes. Colorado has a massive influx of anglers from out of state, the majority come here for the Gold Medal Trout fishing that can be had here. Why, because the state promotes and advertises trout fishing here, Colorado has the regulations and infrastructure to support fly fishermen. It would be wonderful if anglers looking to catch pristine, wild, never caught before, common and mirror carp would consider Colorado as a carping destination. Our state has the highest elevation in the nation where you can catch carp, @9000+ft. We have stunning scenery and wildlife and some amazing State Parks and bodies of water. Yes, we also have some strict regulations on chumming - basically, you can't do it ! PVA, it's a grey area, bordering on illegal depending on the official you ask. Packbaits - barely passable, best make sure your hook is buried into the pack. 2 rods, not 3, that is better at least than some states. Night fishing, allowable at most State Parks but not many local parks and so on. If regulations can be changed, over time, to encourage and promote carp fishing in Colorado then hopefully it would attract more people here to fish. Are they going to "weed' our out of state responses, perhaps. I would hope they take a step back and look at not only what anglers in our state desire but also what anglers outside of our state look for when considering Colorado as a trophy fishing destination. Here's an example of a beautiful 20 lb mirror caught this week, in frigid conditions, by one of our local anglers. Tight-Lines, John
  5. Thanks Brian. Given it's a 5-year cycle here, CPW take angler feedback and use this in reviewing and setting regulations and priorities for the next half decade. It is very important that anglers get their comments submitted and voice heard. This survey is one example of what can do as CAG, coming together, as a unified force and voice, to assist in making positive change. Tight-Lines, John

  8. "CAG Newsletter" ? keep it simple imho. JF
  9. Excellent move - I can actually read the NACA now on a mobile device - looks good, reads great, well done !
  10. Most mobile o/s's (apple/android) have been moving away from Flash content support these past few years - though you can get a 3rd party plug-in viewer. My new LG G3 andriod o/s phone, wouldn't read it (due to lack of flash support), my wife's phone, the same. With your iPhone, can it run iBook (available through Apple App Store) ? - thought that would read it ?
  11. Best of luck to you Andy, i'm sure your local carping scene will only benefit from your focus! I look forwards to seeing some of your bait making endeavors! Tight-Lines, John
  12. Great work by all involved, a very good read ! Thanks !
  13. Fins-UP for sure. Order processing and Delivery speed, 11 out of 10. Had a large order from BCT - ended up going with a basic ground delivery due to weight and my limited budget. The order was turned around and processed within a business day and out for delivery. Amazingly the BCT FedEx "Donkey" turned up this morning, 48 hours after it was shipped. Fast turnaround, excellent service and support. In disbelief I even had to double check this was Fedex ground, and not Fedex-priority etc. It was simply ground. Yes, all of our US vendors are great. i honestly, see little reason to venture overseas - not worth it, imho, to save a few pennies - i'd rather support our local business and those whom have supported CAG over the years in such a huge way.
  14. Welcome to the BOD, and many thanks for stepping up to perform this duties to benefit us all.
  15. Given that there are supposedly 3 million people now targeting carp now in the USA, though this does not note the method the carp are being caught, it is most unlikely there are more "sponsored" anglers than not, i'd even go so far as to say, IMPOSSIBLE. It may feel that way to some because the "sponsored" anglers will typically be very active in sharing their activities via electronic mediums to others. Again, go figure, that's why they are given sponsorship, to have, to hold, to experience and to share, and to do so often ! Marketing 101 ! I have personally used Nash products for a few years now, rock solid and well worth the premium price. If they were to fail, and I contacted Nash for support, I would expect a level of service equal to the premium for owning their products. If the product failed due to my own handling, well, I would also expect to be paying for the replacement. The crunch comes down to, did I break it, or did it fail ? Regretfully the manufacturer has no idea and I am sure they receive many requests, on a daily basis, to replace kit that "failed" ... all they can go by is their own internal metrics on actual failure rates to make the judgement call on replacement. I snapped 2 Daiwa rods in less than a year. Daiwa replaced both, charging me only shipping. The second time I called, they even joked that I was becoming a "frequent" flier with their customer service department. If I had snapped a 3rd, I suspect, I would be paying full price for the replacement and honestly, I would expect to be doing so. I did actually call them a 3rd time when the line guard on one of their reels shattered. In this instance, they sent me a replacement free of charge, not even a shipping cost. The product obviously should not have failed in that manner, it did and they replaced it. I have had a ceramic insert break on the rod tip recently. I will be replacing the tip. I will also be using rod tip protectors in future!
  16. Same here, ordered Wed, arrived Friday - excellent service as always!
  17. Finally managed to get out for the first time this year on the Quest for Carp, 2014. No sooner had I cast out with one rod to wet the line that upon the retrieve one of my Daiwa Sealine Black 4500 BRI Bite & Run reels made some cracking sounds and jammed. Once I dismantled it (bankside surgery at it's best) I noticed that the plastic line guard (a dome shaped contraption with slots) that fits under the aluminum spool had literally shattered. Down to a single reel I finished the rest of the couple of hour session and returned home to scour the web for a spare part. First trip out of the season, not only did I blank, but I killed one of my reels ! On the Daiwa's website I was able to locate the detailed parts breakdown for the reel and part # I required. However I could not actually order the part as their order tool was having issues "finding" the part. So I fired off an email to Daiwa. I was expecting a reply in a few days with some crazy $$$ amount required to replace the part, if it was even available. My email wasn't even requesting a warranty repair, just an inquiry about the spare part availability and price. This morning I had pleasant surprise in my email from Daiwa Customer Service. They are now sending me a replacement line guard, for free, which I should have it in a few days. Now that's great speedy service which exceeded my expectations. I've worked for the past couple of decades in IT technical support and customer service. It is easy for us all to post our rants and raves when support and service fails to meet the customer needs. Just wanted to post a "Fins-Up" for Daiwa Customer Service - I was very pleased, and honestly, a little surprised ! I may now be on Daiwa's frequent service department customer list. In 2 years i've shattered 2 rods and now a reel -- perhaps I am just hard on equipment ? "Finney, for all equipment your Quality Testing Needs!". Tight Lines, John
  18. Sharing a thanks from my wife for the rod pod & weigh sling she ordered for my birthday (which was on the 4th) on my behalf. Though she placed the order early last week the items still arrived on the 3rd July which allowed me to "field test" the sling that day ! Thanks BCT - great service and delivery as always !
