There was a photo of a lady who caught one about 2-3 years ago. Got it on the list but most are caught while fishing for other species.

Tex, great story and photos as well. I like the comment on "nuisance fish." When carp fishing, that could be just about any fish that interrupts the main purpose of catching carp.

Depends on where you got the fish and how they are prepared. The custodian at our college said that carp fed his family during the Depression. The kids would catch them out of the local creeks, put them in a spring-fed horse trough for 10-14 days to get rid of the mud taste. He also said that you have to make sure you removed what he called the mud vein or it would ruin the taste. I'm thinking this is the vein that runs along the spine. Don't anything out of the rivers in Tennessee. The TWRA has two pages of warnings due to chemical pollutants.

There are only two FB pages that I look at. This one and one connected to a local photography club. I was told to get on FB several years ago by a member of a club I was affiliated with. First FB view was the wife of a member who said she was going to the grocery store. Who cares?

Kayaking is growing by leaps and bounds. Good luck as it is a way to access places not available otherwise. BTW, a guy won $50K in a kayak bass tournament in Chattanooga, TN a while back.

I have seen a newt hovering mid-depth by a bluegill nest. I don't think it was admiring the scenery. Watched a bass nest for three days- good population of carp but never saw one near the nest. The bass was busy keeping several bluegill away.

I have never seen it. Looked at a lot of fish nests and never even seen a carp near one. Fancy restaurants charge big bucks and call it caviar.

Thanks, Ken. I saw one several years ago while helping the state stock brown trout in a local tailwater. The bird dipped down, caught a small trout and flipped it up on the bank. Then he hopped up on the bank and maneuvered the fish so he could swallow it headfirst. Never forgot that scene.

That is a long dissertation. Good luck with carp angling in North Dakota. I have posted on the FB page that I have never seen a carp eating fish eggs, even where there was a good population of carp. Getting ready to catch some carp on the fly here in SE TN. Tight lines!!
