  1. Hey, group, no problem here at all! Did I mention that I charge $75/hour for consulting fees? I stepped up to help CAG and that is my full intention. I would like to see the membership grow to and past the 1K mark. We all know what fun it is to catch a carp, no matter what size. My schedule and the weather has been a factor in getting on the water this spring but the lakes are filling to summer pool and the temps are warming up. No matter which direction we go, let's all make the newsletter happen for the benefit of CAG and for non-members (who aren't members......yet). If we go to an e-NL, I suggest we put the NL on the forum in the open section with the e-magazine so we can direct non-members to both and see what it's all about. Sullypool, thanks for your input. Valid idea; I'll PM Brooksey and we'll get together and see what we can conjure up here. Edit: You have seen my threads about my two grandsons with their first carp. My oldest granddaughter wants me to take her fishing so she can use the rod I built for her at Christmas. Santa and I had a deal- he gets a discount. NL material, if I ever saw it.
  2. Man, how time flies and the deadline sneaks up on us. I have an idea for a future edition. Will get it to you in plenty of time.
  3. I like print because it is hard to take a computer into the bathroom. I like the printed hunting and fishing regulations- I keep a copy in the van for fast reference. A desktop is hard to move around. Addendum: Today has been busy with a lot of rat-killing here. I'm going to call the printer tomorrow AM and see when we can meet about the quote.
  4. Flycarpster, thanks for your input. I'm just the opposite.
  5. It's supposed to rain all week so carping is out. I'm going to visit the bidder on the NL and make sure that we are all on the same page (no pun intended). We want to make sure all bases are covered with the gathering of material, editing, printing and mailing of the NL. I don't care for surprises- "Oh no, I didn't include that." Will get back with what I find and report in detail.
  6. Update: My Internet service made some changes which IMHO were really stupid. You know, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I will have to print the quotes, scan them, save them as documents and send out as an attachment. This should be simpler than sending them one at a time as a reply. Sorry for the delay. John T. aka skeet3t
  7. Got a second quote that seems a bit more " $$ friendly" by to going with an eight page format. Forwarded to AF Bob to send to the BOD.
  8. Carl, thanks for the info. Carl has submitted a quote- it has been forwarded to AF Bob who will forward it to the BOD. We are getting closer now that we have some information as a foundation.
  9. Update: I just got off the phone with Carl (Carlymoomoo) and we found old newsletters in the archives to use for examples (hooray for Willem!). We are exchanging phone numbers and email addresses to simplify communication. Carl is going to look at the old newsletters and see what is involved in getting it going and keeping it going. Will keep the forum posted on progress. Tight lines and noisy alarms!
  10. Sent Carl a PM for his phone number this AM.
  11. AF Bob, I have it somewhere and will look into contacting him soon. I can't understand why we are willing to give someone a printing job and they drag their feet. As for the e-version, I find that I rarely look at the NACA online. Print magazines have a place in the house and I can take it with me when I'm fishing, at the Dr.'s office, etc.
  12. AF Bob, check post #58 at the latest update. Getting a bit impatient at this time.
  13. Update: I called the five printers and it seems like they are dragging their feet. I did get a commitment from one to get the quote this afternoon. I have been in business, manufacturing and sales since 1964. I have never found that it takes a week to formulate a quote if you have the cost, labor, and overhead figures and materials costs in front of you. FWIW, three of us did a quote on an entire restaurant in three hours!
  14. Checked emails and the mail today. So far no responses. I plan on keeping the forum updated as things develop.
  15. My concern working with a "long distance" supplier/vendor is the communication factor. Each of the printers I have contacted is within 8 minutes drive from my house. I appreciate the good words about Carlymoomoo. Let's see what we get in the next few days regarding the bids and the services they can provide. Then we can go from there. Thanks to all for your input.
  16. Update: I met with the five printers and all seem to be interested. However, we will have to weigh the differences vs. cost. I want to do this in a business-like manner to get more bang for the buck. I will be getting hard copies of the quotes and submit them to AF Bob as president to be forwarded to the BOD.
  17. Update so I don't keep adding to my previous post. I have five printers that do newsletters! I will be meeting with them after lunch (can't miss that!) and discuss what we are looking at. I will leave a sheet with the material I mentioned in my previous post. I will inform them that this is a request for a quote so we can get the best price. Almost forgot, I will ask for references when they submit their quote. I am familiar with three of the printers who have been in business for many years. As soon as I get the quotes, I will review them and get with AF Bob to start the process of getting everything approved. I'm sure that they will ask for our non-profit verification. Thanks to all who have expressed an interest and support of the revival of the newsletter.
  18. Update- running behind due to an overloaded life! Sorry. I will be contacting some local printers in the next few minutes to see if they can do the newsletter. If they say yes, I am going to drop off the following questions for quote. Here is a laundry list of questions: 1. We are a non-profit organization. 2. We will furnish artwork and text for the header. 3. Do you do multiple page newsletters, front and back pages? 4. Can you staple, fold, and address? Possibly we can furnish this information for them to store and update as needed. 5. I can pick up and take to the main PO for mailing. Edit: I'm going to ask for any examples they might have. Edit: The title page can be decided in due time. I want to get the groundwork done first. I'll be posting what I find.
  19. I'm inclined to agree with The Big Worm and JohnFinney. 1. It pinpoints who we are. 2. The title page will reflect what it is: Quarterly Newsletter, Winter 2015; Summer, 2015; etc. 3. The title page will have the website so anyone can not only see who we are but what we do. Any thoughts? BTW, Big Worm, you are involved by your post. Thanks for your input!
  20. Title ideas: 1. Gold Fever 2. Bankside Chat 3. Carp Chat This is going to be the hard part- lots of good suggestions.
  21. Catchy and short? That's me! OK, I'm going to use this thread to keep the forum posted on progress. Right now, I'm getting feedback on the old NL. Thanks to those who contributed. There are four major printers in town that I'm going to visit and see what their capabilities are that fit our needs. We'll also compare- us or them. When I find out what they can do, being in the business world since 1964, (you didn't think I was that old!), I'm going to do a bid on the NL and then let the BOD examine the bids and make a decision. I want everyone to be informed and involved.
  22. Hawkeye, good point. What would we do without youtube?
  23. I just finished a long conversation with AF Bob regarding the newsletter. I'm going to begin the legwork to see about printing costs (us or contract printer), size of paper, number of pages, etc. We already have a number of suggestions and suggested template for the newsletter. Any other suggestions, please post them here. AF Bob and I will closely monitor posts and will work with the BOD and members to come up with a great newsletter.
