  1. Though it was boiling outside (98F and 105F heat index) I decided to try one of my most consistent creeks, and ugghh- very high and muddy, but, I was here and had an hour, so why not. AND one hit, one fish and wow, wow, wow!- this one shone 10 yards out- a large (10lb) Ghost- almost snow white- called him Casper and let him go-great fighter and just a nice quick set!.........My best ghost by far!!..........
  2. 2019 CAG Membership Drive & A Special Incentive to Join! For over 25 years the Carp Anglers Group (CAG) has been dedicated to introducing anglers in North America to the excitement of catch & release carp fishing as well as the protection of trophy carp. Strength in Numbers: One of the critical factors toward ensuring the protection of trophy carp (especially from indiscriminate bow fishing and unregulated or illegal movement of fish) is the continued growth of our membership base. Simply put - The more members we have the greater our presence, influence and representation we can have to ensure better appreciation for carp and carp fishing with state fishery organizations. Every $ Counts! CAG is a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers. Every cent of your membership fee goes toward supporting the CAG mission and better outcomes for our favorite sport fish. We need you! Now is the time to step up and join CAG. It costs only $25 for new members (which includes a New Member Pack) and then just $20 a year for renewals. We now have almost 4,000 people on the CAG Facebook page so we know there are plenty of potential members! Please Note: If your CAG Membership has expired or you are a CAG Forum Guest please Log-In with your existing User Name and Password to renew your membership. Please do not create another account. C): To treat the carp with respect, promote the release of trophy-size carp and encourage others to do the same. D): Most of all: go fishing, share with others, and have fun.
  3. So, the IGFA has grand slams for "popular" fish species (Bass, trout, inshore saltwater fish, etc.- three species in a day, 4 species in a day, etc. ). I had some time at a conference I was presenting at in Utah, so I got a guide and we went dry fly fishing, and nymphing. Well, I caught a bucket -list fish my brother and I only dreamed of- Grayling!!!!... We always thought we'd have to go to Alaska for them, but I caught more grayling than any other fish, in creeks no one would think held fish....The day proceeded with rainbow, cutthroat, brook, grayling and the trip ended with a fair number of brown trout!!!......Interestingly we found a chunk from the middle of the body of a very dark carp- no head, no tail, floating in the river............. an eagle or osprey maybe................within 48 hours of returning, just had to go creeking for carp though, and, uh, cattin too!... .....oh, and the conference was good too!.... MO
  4. Hi all!!!..... Well after a short trout trip in Utah (grayling, brook, rainbow, cutthroat and browns), came back to creekin-new spot, and less than 15 minutes, had 3, lost 1, then constant action for the next 2 hours!!! AND 3 DOUBLES (only took 2 rods)....biggest was 12-2!!! I've never been skunked in the creeks that I can remember, so if your sittin there reading this or looking out your window, GET TO THE CREEKS and CARP!!!....Life's too short!! Sorry if the videos don't come through!! IMG_0771.MOV IMG_0919.MOV IMG_0919.MOV
  5. Well............I'm hearing crickets on the forum all!!.............just cause the Big Four is over, doesn't mean the carp get a respite eh?........Today I braved the 94 degree, 100 degree heat index to get some creek carp and, yep, they were there!!...... In 6 minutes, I caught 4 fish; one carp within 30 seconds, then another 3 minutes later, then two channel cats three minutes apart, and wound up with 7 fish altogether- 5 carp and 2 channel cats-lost two more hits in 40 minutes. All on either strawberry or lemon pack on 8lb test with super ultra light rods- the hits barely make the alarms trip and it was non-stop. All in a new spot-I never made it to one of my favorite holes!!..........glad I took some lemonade!!!...........Go to the creeks all- the action is non-stop!!! Though small, they fought like 10-12lbrs on light drag!!!!......so much fun!!!.............MO carpin set up creek.MOV
  6. Weather is finally settling!, so migrating from the creeks to the lakes and the bite is starting to pick up!- here's a few from 6-18lbs, the two largest caught tonight .....Good carpin all!
  7. So....I posted my most unusual catches on carp rigs a couple years ago- a Chinese mystery snail (Jerome I think you had one too) and a gar, but this tops it all!. My first fish of last night was.... A WALLEYE!!!. I knew this lake was stocked with them. I wasn't reeling in- I had 2 yellow fake corn on a hair rig and a 3os gripper lead with a combination of soybean meal, panko, sweet corn and birdseed-tightlined 50 yards out. Hit like a carp, but as I reeled it in close I thought I had a bass, but no-this 2lb walleye!!!!! CRAZY. I travel to Minnesota yearly to catch walleye and pike!- now I have the best of both worlds and have to travel 50 feet!!!!!.....bet the walleye circuit never used this combo to catch walleye!.......my thought (in the clear water) is it saw the corn move and hit it.........they don't eat bottom stuff!!.....I released it as well (they're very good eating!).........
  8. The Quest to catch some big pre-spawn commons at the Fairgrounds was proving difficult. In this episode we try a different section of the lake after using a Deeper Sonar to find the fish. Our efforts were rewarded with Andrew landing a couple of good commons. Hope you Enjoy ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp5HuSisYNA
  9. After a spring of fishing we finally got some footage edited, the coffee pot filled and a mug ready for some victory action ! Our first trip of the new season took us to Adams County Fairgrounds. The calm morning quickly turned into a cold, blustery afternoon. Our efforts were rewarded towards the end of the session with a with a nice low double common. We were lucky and shot some footage of a magnificent bald eagle flying over the lake. A very short video from a very cold few hours on the bankside! Hope you enjoy this teaser of the season to come! Best Regards John
  10. HAPPY FATHERS DAY ALL!........HERE'S HOPING EVERYONEGOOD FISHING BUT SPEND TIME WITH THE KIDS-IT GOES BY WAY TOO FAST!!! .......MO
  11. WOW!!!!!!! My best session ever!- in between drenching rains the past several days, took a 4 hour session behind the house- landed 15 fish- no losses, no catfish, and finally broke through 20!....totals were 12-5, 15-0, 13-4, 16-15 (double), 16-4, 15-5 (double), 18-2, 18-0(double), 14-2, 13-7, 14-12(double), this nice 20-10!, 16-0 (double), 16-4, and my last one during rain and just before midnight at 14-2!!......What an incredible night!!!!!!!!!
  12. So...fishin's pickin up!!........in just a three hour session, caught a walleye (yes a walleye!) two channel catfish, and a plethora of carp- some of the strongest fish!-13 fish from 13 to 21-6oz......the waters' warmin. up...won't top the East coast fish, or Codys massive leviathan, but its still great!!!!.........good fishin all!!! MO
  13. So.........I have a spot on the lake that consistently produces for me regardless of the weather, except when its frozen. I do see less surface activity right after heavy rain, and fewer catches when the clear lake becomes chocolate, but, at least to me they seem less affected by weather than crappie or bass.........thoughts all? Caught these two last night ( and lost a third at the shore-snapped thew line) after extreme rains the previous 2 days which turned it into chocolate.....(ok maybe latte ).....maybe a post-spawn female on the larger one?........ MO
  14. I'd say happy memorial day like everyone else-its a vacation day, start of summer, etc. BUT, we should take at least a somber moment to remember those who have allowed us the freedom to fish for carp, decide where and how to live and be the greatest country on the planet!!!!!.........so, simply, Memorial Day-thank you for serving!!!......... MO
  15. Stayed out late two nights ago in dead calm water behind the house and BOOM!- this beautiful, 12-1 linear mirror! -the first I've caught out of the lake (but not a big four fish, its just set up that way!, then after midnight, this 19-1 that fought like its size (:), whereas the most up to this point were pretty lackluster fights-the water's getting warmer!!!
  16. Finally gotta chance to fish this afternoon-tried a local river with no success after an hour, so went to a creek and caught 5 in just over 2 hours, all from 6-8lbs or so and one double!!. Had just cleaned, oiled, and re-spooled all my rods (17 in all!)-nice to have clean gear that worked perfect!.....I know most of us stay indoors til spring, but, on a nice day try your local creek- the carp are there!!!!........good fishing all!!!
  17. After another month of computer issues, editing s/w updates, corrupted templates, I was FINALLY able to get another episode edited and released. So, it's time to sit back, grab an extra HUGE mug of java and watch the show. https://youtu.be/nv1CQwVaGnI An overnight session at Chatfield Reservoir resulted in many common and mirror carp for me, including a great mid 20s mirror just after midnight. James caught consistently throughout the night with some good fish banked. Hope you Enjoy! John CarpQuest
  18. Started chumming a new swim a couple hours before midnight, then fished a little and caught two small commons.......hmmmm... not good. But, at the rate of 2 fish per hour, fishing gradually picked up in terms of size!........what started as 4-8 lbrs quickly rose to my personal best, next to last, linear mirror carp!, and a 20-1, 33" at that!....This carps ventral aspect was white!- I thought it was some aberrant catfish at first as it didn't fight like a carp and SOOOOOOOO Excited when I landed it!!............so tired, but it invigorating catch!!!!!..........waitin to be approved to log the fish on the CAG Big Four.......went back to my original pack bait, as my newer lime or lemon based hadn't been working as well, but the lemon came through (the 13-5 fell to that).......WOW what a start!!!......... 4-5, 12-3, 7-0, 13-0, 14-2, 13-5, 5-0, -8, 13-2, 6-2, 20-1, and 14-2!!!!............
  19. In this week’s new special episode of CarpQuest we travel 5000 miles back to the UK for a summer vacation. I took with me all the tackle I could pack so I could take my niece out fishing whilst there. The Quest, to help Stephanie catch her first ever fish, a carp. Could we get it done? Hope you enjoy ! Tight-Lines, John
  20. Back to the creeks-lakes are just too warm (82-85F!) and not catching any. But, creeks seem to be reliable. This week I caught two carp (6lb and 4lb) and one very nice (my biggest creek grass carp at 20lbs; compared to my lake largest 46lbs), then this evening, had a nice two hour session, catching a 10-4, then a near black 11-3 and 7 minutes later a 9-7, then nice 12-4, and ended with this pretty 6-7......one week total of 79lb 9oz!!!......my faith is restored after driving 2 hours Friday night to what I thought would be a hidden gem, but talked to a guy going bowhunting.....the shores were littered with longnose gar, asian carp but no commons...he stated there are some small ones, but i didn't have 1 hit in 8 hours!!!......such an interesting season!........fair thee well fellow carpers!!....
  21. Crazy hot weather and carp fishing action on Memorial Day weekend. I pushed the scales close to 30 lb's a couple of times with some mighty Chatfield Reservoir common carp. Scopex Squid doing the job paired with Trokar Magnum curved shank hooks. An insane session with over twenty carp landed. A new PB mirror was landed for Bob Crook and an almost twenty pound common for James. Hope you enjoy our latest episode! Tight-Lines, John CarpQuest
  22. Had a nice day fishing at a new spot with a new bread crumb, sweet corn and jello pack bait. Caught nice 10 pound mirror and a small bullhead. The middle of the day on really hot days seems to be producing the most bites and hookups. Video soon to come
  23. Hey all!!! Well after zeroing out at multiple local lakes, I got my groove back in the creeks!!!. In just about 5 hours, I caught 7 carp...more like what I'm used to!!......subtle bite worked wonders on straight sweet corn for four fish and 10g method lead with panko and hair rig for the others, but also hooked on subtle bite for 2/3 of them-one did actually run!!...It had rained this morning, not flooding the creeks, but making the creek murky and likely the carp were less shy......the 10lbr ran up and down the creek for 10 minutes before being able to land him! After a disappointing weekend, in which I caught NO CARP, I needed my fix and it helped lift my spirits and confirm my corn, pack bait and technique still works!!....to heck with lakes, eh?.......so 5-10, 2-10, 6-10, 8-8, 9-0, 2-8, and 10lbr!....the 9lbr appeared to be a pre spawn female, and is the darkest carp I ever caught!. I had seen her against the opposite bank with her back out of the water-I'm assuming she did this routinely and simply got her tan on for spring break!!........good luck all!!
  24. Multiple mugs of coffee cannot prepare you for this insane session from a few weeks ago. With my usual spots taken I setup on the east shore of the main reservoir facing out into the wide open water. What a crazy session followed, with four carp in the 20's landed, a handful of fish in the mid teens and finally a new PB mirror. What a great afternoon's carp fishing! Hope you enjoy. <teaser: the new PB mirror carp only lasted a week, landed an even bigger one the next session!> Hope you Enjoy ! John CarpQuest
