  1. It’s time! Let’s do this! Who’s in?! Fri Nov 16 - Sun Nov 18 Come out to Emma Long and enjoy some laughs, stories, fish, and some cold beverages! Booking: http://www.austintexas.gov/department/emma-long-metropolitan-park I will be giving out medals for the biggest 3 carp! What I won’t be doing is losing my keys in the middle of the lake. Hey August, can I borrow your boat?! 😜

    Fall Fishing Tactics

I have fished hard each weekend for the last three weekends expecting the carp to be on their fall feeding spell but have only landed a few 1-3 pound fish (the smallest I've ever caught and seen from this lake). I'm on a 42 acre lake that I've been fishing for 2 years (using exclusively sweet corn until now by the way). It has tons of different structures and features, deepest spot is 47 feet with most of the lake being 15 feet or more, I've fished from 64 F to 58 F this fall so far, the weather has been from stormy to sunny and everything in between, it doesn't have that many carp in it with the most I've had in a weekend being 8 fish and can't surpass it, have tried fishing multiple spots, tried sweet corn, odyssey xxx boilies, white pop ups, and a combination of them, I've fished multiple depths ranging from 3-20 feet, I'm just running your average safety lead clip system with anti tangle sleeves on both ends, 20 lb braid for mainline and leader (I'm sure it's not tangles I've tested it a lot), I've been running a hair rig with a size 4 humpback style hook that's very sharp. The only thing I've been doing differently than last year is I haven't been pre baiting my spot with sweet corn a week in advance. Do you guys think that's the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 'cause I'm struggling here.
  3. It's time for another CAG Central TX Fall Fish-In, here in Austin, TX... We are now able to reserve sites at Emma Long online, but there might be limited availability already. I'll take a look and see what our options are, but I'm thinking about November 12-13, 2016. Any suggestions and questions/concerns are welcomed. Thanks!
  4. The final episode of CarpQuest from 2015 sees Andrew, Ron, Jordan and I all meet up for an end of the season session at the Fairgrounds. We all banked a few good carp before the day was done including a beautiful 20 lb'er for me and a new PB for young Jordan. It was a frosty and cold start to the morning. As the temperatures warmed up so did the bite. Overall the 2015 season was not a bad, even though we lost more than half of it the volatile Colorado weather, with record flooding and weeks of powerful storms. The fall fishing certainly made up for the earlier difficult conditions with 80% of the carp caught coming during the months of September and October. I am certainly looking forwards to the 2016 season ahead, hoping to meet many new anglers, introduce more people to the passion of carp fishing and hopefully, fish some new venues. Tight-Lines, John

    CAG Central TX Fall Fish-In

It's time for a CAG Central TX Fall Fish-In at Emma Long Park, in Austin TX. Looking at late September, or early October. Come out and enjoy good times with other carp anglers, meet some new friends, and have some laughs. Everyone is welcomed to join; bring a newbie, if possible. Let's catch some fish, enjoy some cold beverages, and share stories. I am also going to try to get medals for the biggest carp/buffalo caught that weekend. Game on! Always a good time! I'll post more details ASAP. Suggestions are always welcomed. See you there!!!
  6. After many questions and encouragement from eager carpers, I am happy to announce the unveiling of a new CAG event. Following in the foot steps of the very successful CAG May Big 4, we have now opened up registration for the Fall version. Prizes will be announced shortly. If you thought about packing in the rods for the winter, you may want to hold off, because the fishing and competition will be heating up. So sign up, talk some smack to fellow anglers, and encourage others to sign up and compete as well. Registration is open till November 5th due to the expedited nature of the announcement. All fish caught in November will qualify as per usual big 4 rules. SIGN UP HERE Questions about the leaderboard? They should be covered HERE
