  1. Simple anti-tangle technique

Prepping for the FFF, and carpin in general, I was continually frustrated driving to a swim, going through the woods, etc. and getting my rods tangled; whether in the car or walking to the swim...........I don't like putting my hooks off my method feeders to the hook holders, or line guides on the rods-it damages the hook point, bends the shrink tubing and puts pressure on the line at the rod tip-sooooooooo, I tried a simple, simple thought-I looked for little nylon bags to cover the hooks, but after not finding any, I used zip-lock sandwich bags-simply placed my method feeder/hair rig in the bag and zip-lock....no tangles, no hooked on brush, etc.!!!......worked well hauling gear for the FFF!!
  2. FFF Advice?

Hello everyone, I wasn't sure where to post this since I couldn't put it on the FFF forum itself... anyway, I'm getting a CAG membership this Christmas and I plan on participating in the FFF this year. However, I've never fished in the winter before and I'm not sure what works best. Recently, water temperatures have been in the mid 40s, and I predict they will approach the high 30s on January 1st. With that being said, I assume I should focus on the deeper water? I've also heard that oxygenation is important, so I've found a swim where a shallow creek flows into a deep hole, around 15 feet, in a secluded bay off a large river. Does this sound like a productive swim, or should I concentrate more on the shallower areas that might get more sunlight exposure? Finally, I'm used to prebaiting large amounts in the spring and fall but I'm aware less is more in the water months. I plan to chum half a gallon of particle on December 30th, simply to get them rooting around on the bottom for freebies. Any opinions or other tips are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks for your time! Ryan
  3. Todays carp

Hello gang!! Fresh off my trial FFF run at midnight Saturday, I had the afternoon to fish in 35mph winds........which gravitated me back to the creeks. I usually use a subtle bite technique, but am trying hair rigs....just fearful of losing lots in the rocks......anywho, one pole had a panko/corn/birdseed/strawberry method feeder with 1 fake pop-up corn, one pole had a method feeder with 2 fake pop-up corn, and one pole was simply a sliding sinker above a #6 Korda krank hook.....and.......... 3 carp in 90 minutes, 6-8, 8-4, and 7-4...with no other hits/hook pulls, etc...there were 2 carp on the two-corn pop-up rig, and one, just as I was packing up, on the subtle bite rig- that fish fought for 10 minutes, up and down the creek, back and forth!- very exciting!!. had to get a face shot of that one as well!!!!....all pretty dark fish, and holing up in less then 8 feet of water in a creek no more than 30-40 feet across.........Can't say which rig won, cause it was biased with two hair rig poles.....but.............. prepping for FFF and ATC!!!..........
  4. FFF Primer

Hi all!!! To echo Frank's call to participate in the 2018 FFF, I took the liberty to perform a pre- FFF primer, last night to show how easy it is!..........so........here's a simple step-by step process; 1. Wake/Stay up 2. Check the local time (starts at midnight!) 3. Drink (insert here- victory coffee, tea, juice, water, etc, but don't drink and drive) 4. Dress appropriately 5. Proceed to the local carp venue which contains un-frozen (non-frozen for the North zone anglers ) with appropriate carp fishing gear- pole, reel, line, hook, bait 6. Proceed to insert line/bait into carp venue 7. Reel in carp 8. Obtain photo of you and carp, preferably a time stamp on your picture 9. Release carp 10. Rebait and fish; repeat steps 6-9 over and over until 11:59pm January 2nd 11. Record and send in your photos on the thread Frank has set up ( thanks Frank and CAG for having this!!) 12. Follow these modified steps 1. Thank your uber drivers 2. Dress appropriately for a good nights sleep 3. Drink (see above) 4. Check the local time 5. Fall asleep By following this simple 17 steps on January 1st 2018, you too will enjoy the comaraderie of fellow CAG members as we start off what will be the best carpin year of all!! I followed these steps exactly, and low and behold.......... I was already awake. The local time was 11:40pm December 2, 2017. I drank one swig of tea. I dressed appropriately. (these I found were all easy steps) I proceeded (with the assistance of fellow CAG member and wife) to be dropped off at my venue....(it isn't safe to leave the car there). The water was un-frozen. I proceeded to place my terminal tackle into the water. I caught carp at 11:50pm 4-4lbr; 12:10am 3-0lbr; 12:21am 3lb 4oz, and this 4lb 8oz at 1:00am-thats my BIG FOUR FFF fish. Then I enlisted the local uber driver (my son and fellow CAG member) to retrieve me from the venue. I followed the modified steps and was asleep by 2:00am and now back to work at 6:00am..........good luck all!!!....be safe... ( I really don't look like skeletor ,,,ummmm, wellll.......)...thanks all!
  5. What a day today!.....62F, so took my son ( a CAG member too!) fishin about 8 minutes away-just a creek next to a grocery store, though no one fishes it for carp).......well....with the subtle bite technique we caught 7 carp; 55lbs 6oz.....in 3 hours.....none of these flip-flopped fought!- all made several runs.............that makes 17 carp for January, including my two FFF, for 107lbs 11oz!!- for a 6.29lb average!!..............Never would have guessed it!-thanks in part to all the CAG members for sharing all their expertise.........was going to a large lake, but too windy, and viola!-fishes!!!!!....Cant wait til it warms up!!! ....................sometimes ya just gotta go fish!!!.......keeps your sanity!!!!!..................good luck and skill all!!!....On to February!!
  6. First December carp!

My first December carp-a 6lbr caught in less than 15 minutes after casting out.... in a larger river (not the Missouri yet-haven't figured that one out yet :)........(just trying to find spots for FFF)...Couldn't believe how well conditioned it was!!....Only carp of the day but several catfish.......
  7. Hi all, Nothing fantastic, but just a nice afternoon fishing today....had two poles; one with light-weight (two split shots) sweet corn, one with oat/corn juice/corn/vanilla pack bait......within 5 minutes had this 9lb grass carp on the sweet corn, then this 8lb 4oz common on the sweet corn pole (not a hit on the oats), lost a larger fish, then this 8lb 12oz common on the same pole....I switched to both poles with sweet corn, but only one pole had the hits-tied the same, weighted the same (two round split-shot 4" up the line)....both poles 8lb mono, identical reels (Pflueger Trions), no alarms-just watching the VERY subtle bite..(any wind and I'd miss every fish), one pole with all the hits 5'6" and the other 5'....cast to within 2ft of each other and on elevated bank stakes......can't explain and don't really care, but...what if I had decided only the one rod?....my creek fishing observations of no carp would have been justified.....this is at least a 12', maybe 15' deep hole and I fished at the edge of the fast-moving inflow (X)......the farther spot (A) is a curved dead-end which the inflow bypasses....maybe my back-up FFF 2017?....very secluded area!!!......saw many breaching carp just in front of the tree-stump, which is inaccessible slack water..i can cast there but the current will pull my line away I think....thoughts on fishing that spot?.Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!!....
  8. FFF in NC - Near Raleigh

I will be fishing the 2016 FFF somewhere near Raleigh, NC. Still trying to decide where, and it is somewhat dependent on if anyone wants to fish with me. Shoot me a PM or email at ecartabiano@gmail.com if you are interested. Cheers, Evan
  9. FFF in East Tennessee

I noticed that I am the only one registered for SE TN. I'm in a quandary about fishing alone, isolated from civilization, on New Year's Eve with all the partiers roaming around. If there is no one available to share the bank, I'm going to bow out of the FFF this year. If you can fish on Lake Chickamauga in Meigs County, let me know. I'll give directions to the spot and need to know by 4 PM tomorrow. Otherwise. I'll be spending the evening at my hacienda. Thanks and gobs of gold!
