working the nuclear plant refuelling jobs has a wonderful benefit, besides the money, they are all on rivers!
most of the time i find a place close by that has good bank access and not far from the truck. well i am starting at Plant Vogtle just outside of waynesboro, GA south of augusta, GA and on the savanaha river. i fished there last fall for carp and done very well for a crew member of the Chattahoochee Carp Anglers any way. my PB here is 21 and i suspect i will break that this fall. that is the plan anyway.

well i always have the rods in my truck and the bucket ALWAYS draw a lot of attention from people i work with. well today it really caught the attention of union pipe welder. (i am terrible with names so i call everone boo-boo) so we will call him Boo. anyway i went down to the river today and after a setup i had a fish on in about 10 minutes. scrappy little 6 pounder. i was on the phone with cooldad when the alarm went to screaming and i abruptly hung up on him. rude i know but i had to. these river fish dont play around they fight like a demon. no camera has i had left it in the RV park i am staying at but that is life.

well Boo came walking up and we got to talking bait and hair rigs and all that when i had a rod go off and it was another nice little 6 pounder and "HE HAD THE LOOK!!!" so i rebaited and told him i was going to the truck and for him to watch the rod. welll i hung around the truck for about 10 minutes when i heard him holler, "what do i do?" i said turn the handle and hang on. now we know how wild river carp fight and he was screaming, HOW BIG IS IT? MAN THIS IS STRONG! so with a little coaching and a excellent netting job my yours truly we netted the golden beauty! now i even thought it was alot bigger than it was but the best part HE WAS SHAKING!. he a bass fisherman. bass and only bass. all else need to die. only bass.
well he was excited as any thing i have seen in a while. cooldad has a grin but this boy was GRINNING! he said let me get my phone. wish he had told me about the camera phone earlier, but o well. he gets the phone and i snap a pic and the phone goes dead. AGHHHHH! so risking that it took the pic i let it go.

now this fish weighed only 8 pounds but MAN WAS HE PUMPED! he had his hands in the bucket and was ready for more. now we caught about 4 more all around 6-8 pounds. but you would have thought there were STINKING MONSTERS! so we pack up and head on out. he gets to the truck and hooks up the phone and sends the picture to everone he knows. that is so cool! any way look past his billy ray mullet and see the smile! AWESOME. he is my fishing buddy now for sure.

anyway here is the pic.

Good stuff! I was lucky to convert one of my best friends who was a bass guy too this year. Always fun to see someone get into their first carp.

Back in the 90s I used to do a lot of work in power plants as well. Some nukes. I agree, most usually have good fishing around them. Only problem for me was finding the time and energy to fish back then because it was usually long hours and lots of travel. Glad to see you get to find time to fish!
