Texas Trip, Help?

With the winter set in here in Nebraska a couple of us were thinking to make the journey down to warmer pastures in Jan/Feb for a carping fix for a few of days.
Originally we were thinking of trying LBL but I understand you cannot night fish there?
So with that in mind a trip to Emma Long could be on the cards, unless any of you guys have any other suggestions?
If we make the long drive south we obviously want to be prepared so any tips or info on swims, tactics, bait, rules, or anything you think I might need to know will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You are correct that LBL closes at 11pm so night fishing is not allowed but you can always swing by during the day while then get back over to Emma Long Park before they close the gates at 10pm
let me know when you are coming down and I will help all that I can

PB Common 34 lbs 8 oz
PB Mirror 26 lbs 10 oz
PB Koi 15 lbs 4 oz

Scott's got the good advice. The only thing I might add is to pick up a bag or two of range cubes for chumming. The 40% protein version can be bought at Callahan's, 501 Bastrop Highway in Austin. If you're into packbait be sure to try gritspack.
Thanks. I have never used either of these before...... usually use boilies or with the method an oat and cracked corn mix.?? Never caught a big buff do you know if they seem to have a bait preference?

I'm personally not a buff expert. I've heard that they like soypack & range cubes. Brid & supercarpio have caught nice buffs out of Emma; you might PM them.
Some guys on the TFF also might be able to help: http://texasfishingf...Rough_Fish_Carp

My best advice is to bait up lightly with flavours not generally used - eg: flavoured maize, and small amounts of boilies - taking the little and often approach - and just stick to your guns. I've never caught a Buff on LBL - but had some nice ones from Emma, and they have mostly come on small particle baits. Filling your swim up with loads of bait right now isn't going to pay dividends, and your best bet might well be introducing more in the way of attractants -- than major amounts of consumable foods.
Please feel free to contact me when you are heading down here - and if I can help I will certainly do so.

Thanks for the tips guys! with freezing blizzards blowing outside here, my trip can't come quick enough!NEver fished Emma, but I caught a couple nice buffs and seen others in person on LBL after baiting up with rabbit pellets and using them in a pva bag with neutrally balanced pop ups as a hook bait. I got my first ever buff there on New Years Eve a few years ago.
Good luck

Tricks, I am heading to Lake Austin on Friday. I will post a report on how we do. The water is down now and I am hoping that will pull me out of my blankfest that I have been doing.
I am hoping for huge buffs!
When are you coming down?
