Hardly got started and Neil's Carp Chariot had a blowout. Neil tried to get himself arrested but the nice officer was concerned about photos ending up on a forum like this one. Some people have no trust...

Beautiful view of camping area here at Mineral Wells State Park in Texas. We had to reserve this campsite in advance and Neil had to go up and claim it the Thursday before, because they're first-come first-serve sites. This particular cabin (#5) was the ONLY one with any bank access. If we didn't claim it in time, there's no other place on the lake to bank fish.

Home crap home... A tent would have been better. An RV would have been even better, but Park rules state if you have a cabin reserved, no RVs are allowed. The louvered walls are not closeable and have nice 3" gaps between them. Really nice for letting the 20 degree breeze blow right through. We ran a propane blower (think in terms of a nuclear hair dryer) inside and it made no difference. Standing 3 feet in front of it you still couldn't feel anything. Froze parts of our anatomy we didn't even realize we had.

There is some beautiful scenery around the lake though. Large boulders everywhere and even a developed area for rock climbing. Local Boy Scout troops use it quite often for rappelling.

Sunrise Friday evening was beautiful. This shot was looking West (obviously) over the dam.

Neil heaving a method ball to the far side of the lake. Actually only about 50', but I know he could if he wanted to. What you can't see are the carp out at 15 or 20 feet that are watching the bait go way past them. It took us a while to realize the fish were actually up close, not in the deeper water.
Nice thing about being the cameraman, you don't have to see your ugly mug in the pictures.

Beautiful sunrise on Saturday morning with my rod pod in foreground. Temperature was around 28 degrees, with a water temp in the low to mide 40s. Both of us had a couple of beeps on our alarms overnight, but no hard runs. Later Saturday morning we caught a couple of 8" long channel cats on mulberry-flavored corn.

First carp of the day! Possible Baby Phone candidate at 14 ounces. Neither Neil nor I had ever seen a carp that small. I thought they were bigger than that when born, but of course, this is Texas.
