Know The Fishing Laws In Ri

Recommended Posts

We have a few strange and unique fishing laws in RI that mainly apply to trout waters. Since carp are also found in those waters, you should know the laws when carp fishing. Here are the highlights:

1. Trout stocked waters are closed to all fishing from March 1 until the second Saturday in April (Opening Day). Trout stocked waters are listed on the DEM website. All other places are open to fishing.

2. The Corn Rule- The use of corn is prohibited in trout stocked waters only. It can be used anywhere else.

3. Chumming is prohibited in trout stocked waters.

4. If you plan to fish in March and early April, you need a new and updated fishing license. Right now you would need a 2011 license.
