Hello! I just moved out to Homer Glen, was looking for some good spots for carp in the area. I prefer lakes and ponds over rivers. The ones I've seen in the area are Lake Tampier, the Sag Quarries, Belly Deep Slough, McGinnis Slough, and Lake Sedgewick. I haven't had the opportunity to go visit any of them for carp, and out of the two that I have visited only the quarries showed carp activity. Anyone know how good the fare is at any of these places, or if there are better spots in the area? I had a pretty good spot by my old place that produced 15lbers regularly, which I think was pretty lucky, but if there's anything comparable around here I'd love to have a go at it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi, ricksonjj--Welcome to Illinois! Those places you indicate hold carp, but the meat-eaters frequent all those places and will actually take carp home, so you won't find any fish of any real size. I would suggest the Chicago lakefront (any of the harbors) and the Lincoln Park rowing lagoon from April through July.
The DesPlaines River in Joliet is also a nice spot. I invite you to join our J-town Fall 40's Carp League which begins September 3 and runs for 9 sessions on intermittent Saturdays through December 17. PM me if interested in the league or if you want to know more about Chicago area carping.
You might also want to click on Illinois Carp Fishing NEWS. It covers many events in the area and also has a link to a discussion board that has a section on places to fish. Take care. Hope to see you on the bank soon. --Frank

It's exciting and it's challenging, but maintain a healthy, well balanced perspective. It's just carp fishing.

Hi, ricksonjj--If you didn't get a chance to peruse the Illinois Carp Fishing NEWS website, I want to invite you to a CAG fish-in to be held on Saturday, May 7 at the rowing lagoon at Lincoln Park (7 AM to 1 PM). The lagoon is located adjacent to Chicgo's Lincoln Park Zoo on Cannon Drive. There will be a canopy and carp related signs at the lagoon's midway point. You can "sign-in" there. This is a non-competitive event, although, if you wish, you can get in an optional big fish contest. Hope you can come.--Frank

I hear the lemont quarries if your familiar with that area there are 2 or 3 lakes on the left when your driving in and there is a dead end up the road and there is a lake on the left with a boat launch and I have friends that mainly go there to catfish and they have seen huge carp in there ..I been there once and haven't had any luck plus the wind speed was at 24 mph that time
