I woke up this morning and the sun was shining, the cold windy and wet weather in the past few days got me itching to get out for some fishing. I decided to try princess point today since it was cold the past few days and the canal tends to have deep and shallow areas that warm up especially from the out flow of cootes. So I get down to the water, set up my 6' 9" bait caster (decided that since my brother was in Toronto I would use a simple set-up rather than the pod and alarms) cast out....... a few minutes later I get a take, my line goes zipping off my spool and I could not gain anything...... a few moments later I lose the fish. A little disappointed but excited at this point I set my rod back up making sure my drag was a little tighter because I had it set up for bass from last summer. I cast out and realized the current was picking up and going inwards towards cootes...........this cause me to snag a few times and break off......... I then decided I needed to get my hook off the bottom, I had made foam corn pop ups but haven't test them, so on the hook it goes with a few kernels of cukk. About 15-20 minutes later I get a huge take, I picked up my rod and my spool was going off. Basically stood there helplessly with my short bass rod as the fish ran. After about 15minutes I finally was able to gain on the fish and landed it, my PB common just over 24lbs. Waiting out the bad weather paid off, I also landed a small carp afterwards that look like a baby compared to the first one, Here are the pictures.
Enjoy,
Henry
