Got up, drove to Port Maitland, fished grits pack, Tristan and his uncle showed up , great guy, Tristan caught a rock bass, I caught some carp, stayed until evening , went home. Had fun, great day.
End of story.

I got up Sunday and did a couple of things and I felt the urge to go on a little road trip. I think I picked Port Maitland because Tristan had posted about going there but I can't be sure. Port Maitland is where the Grand River empties into Lake Erie and it can be a great place to fish.

2 downloadsSometimes it can get crowded even though there is a lot of bank space. I was hoping the rain that morning would put people off and I could easily find a good spot.
I got there late morning and set up. I was using grits pack and puffs.

2 downloadsIt was not long before I was joined by Tristan and his uncle. They set up beside me. I was glad to see them as it is always good to fish with fellow CAG'rs and Tristans uncle may soon be fishing carp paylake style.
Before long I landed this chunky carp.

3 downloadsOnce again the boilie proved itself the standard for carp bait here in Canada with this incredible capture by Tristan. Apparanly they may be bream proof but fall victum to the dreaded red eyed tail grabber aka rock bass.

4 downloadsI also got the opportunity to test out a new bit of kit. My new carp mat. It came to me from S. Rossy Inc. a premiere supplier of carp gear here in Canada. It is composed of a natural ( no synthetics for this lads carp ) closed cell, cross hatched polymer and provides excellent protection for your fish. It is also light in colour so that it does not heat up in the sun unlike those dark green mats.

1 downloadsThe river mouth filled with shiners and I watched as Caspian Terns made their arial dives to catch dinner. I also noticed that there were shiners floating by on the surface. I think they were suffering from temperature shock. They were being picked off the surface by grackels and other oppurtunistic feeders.
All in all it was a great day to be on the bank . The Grand river was good to me.
