Buckeye Bob

1St Saugeye Of The Year...

Recommended Posts

Buckeye Lake water temps are dropping and the saugeye fishing is picking up; will be good til the water heats backs up in late spring. Net measures 22". For those that may not know a saugeye is a cross between a walleye and sauger...if I'm not mistaken they are also sterile. Ohio does a great job of monitoring numbers/size and stocking as necessary to keep up a great fishery here.

Thanks gents...the "toothy critters" are fun to catch all winter and very, very good eating. We can't keep them unless they're over 15" and only 5 a day max. Until a couple years ago we didn't have a size or possession limit...since putting the regulations into effect the size and numbers have increased. On a positive carping note...they also eat many of the shad and carp minnows that reside here as well...my hope is that it will also help the carp population to return to the fewer and larger carp this lake used to have. All the best everybody.
