Scioto River 6-16-2013

Recommended Posts

Woke up late this morning with no plans to fish. Did some laundry, piddled around for a little bit and got bored. The river has been up with all the rain we had this past week so it was out of the question. It was flowing about twice as fast as when I fished it the first time so I figured I wouldn't be able to hold bottom. I decided I would go try out Otterbein Pond since I hadn't fished it since the winter, but first I was going to check the flow of the Scioto. I was curious to see what it looked like.

I arrived around 2pm and got one rod out with a 2oz lead. Started casting short and then a little farther, littler farther, etc. Seemed to be holding bottom just fine. Got all the gear out of the car and got set up.

First fish came in at 18lbs 2 oz and took me way down river. Next fish was only about 4-5 pounds. Fish 3 and 4 were both 17 pounders. One was 17lbs 5oz and one was 17lbs 7oz.

Not bad for a "fast" flowing river.

Nice fish! You guys in central Ohio bring back a lot of childhood memories. What is the green thingy in the bucket? Is it used to make those nice formed baits?

Pretty much. It's called a Gardner Bait Bomb. Just fill up the tube and compress. It makes a nice mold to put around your lead or hookbait.
