Well we kicked off our 2014 Fish In schedule this weekend at East Harbor State Park (Lake Erie)...this has been our season open since 2002...this makes it East Harbor XIII :) Weather, water conditions, and fish cooperated with us all weekend. 19 anglers travelling from all over the state were in attendance and we even had some surprise drop ins. Shawn Woerlein and his 8 year old daughter dropped in...Shawn is one of our previous chairs....Paul (FishPro) showed up...he is a local angler...not carp specific...but, he stepped up the winter prior to our first Fish In up there...and gave me a tour of the local area. We also had an old CAG member, Sean (Miso-Ohio) drop in, he was up there working on his weekend getaway trailer and heard we were there. Another old CAG member drove over from Cleveland, Brian (Ohio Iceman), just to see us as well. So if I counted everyone....21 would be our total count. All the ingredients for a great weekend...it indeed was.

Here's a friday morning breakfast pic...before daylight even

Before getting into the fishing facts of the weekend, I'd like to express a HUGE thanks to Larry Kinsler (FishinFool) for the all out effort he put into the Fish In this weekend. He fed breakfast, friday, saturday and sunday, to all of us willing to walk over to his campsite. Friday morning was sausage, eggs, and toast. Saturday was biscuits and sausage gravy. Sunday was pancakes. Additionally he had hot coffee and hotwater in dispspensers pretty much around the clock for the whole weekend. Tip of the hat to ya Larry and a very heartfelt thank you. Here's the few pictures of his setup...once you see it you'll understand why he can't go anywhere without someone asking him about carp fishing.

In addition to those great breakfast meals and occasional evening snacks....we had a fantastic cookout/lunch buffet supplied by members...I can still see Larry on his grill with making double bacon and cheese burgers....Vince had to have put an effort into those Quadruple Cheesy Potatos....Jan (Phil's wife) had some great pulled pork bbq....and Mike provided some great "heated" German Potato salad...others of us brought cookies, hotdogs, brats, buns, plates, chips etc to provide for a more than complete cookout...a true group effort :) No one went hungry for sure.

We also had 3 members who went, or should I say walked..... the "EXTRA MILE" (actually 1.25 miles) to fish the channel that connects the inlet with Lake Erie...special mention goes out to Richie, Michael and Scotty. It took them 3 round trips to get everything in...then 3 round trips to get everything back to the vehicles. That's dedication...that particular channel has given up some biggies in the past and they were going for a Lake Erie 50.

Biggest Fish of the Weekend was caught by Richie at 20 lb 5 oz

Followed closely by Vince (Vinsanity) with a 20 lb 4 oz

Who was closely followed by Dick L. with a 20 lb 1 oz

We had some "surprise" catches as well...ie 3 goldfish...1 by Craig and 2 by Scotty...and 3 largemouth bass (caught on boilies) by Scott, Larry and Scotty.

Our youngest attendee...8 year old Courtney Worlein eagerly accepted an invite by Dick L to bring in a fish...and posed with it without question...and smiling...future carper for sure.

Had a great time as always at East Harbor. The weather cooperated for once in the 5 or so years that I have attended and a lot of fish were caught.

A big thanks to Bob for putting the event on, Larry for all the food he provided, and a big thanks to everyone that came out!

See everyone in Saginaw!

Man, you had a great fish-in. Good fish, good folks and lots of good food. If it wasn't so cold in the winter, I'd move back just for the chow at your fish-ins.

Many thanks to Bob for organizing a fantastic event, it has to go down as probably my favorite visit to East Harbor. Also a special thanks to Larry for all his hard work feeding everyone :party0012icon: . I know the breakfasts both days really set me up for the days fishing so thank you.

It was also great to see so many people out there and catch up with folk I haven't seen for quite some time. Now "Team Ohio" has blown off the winter cobwebs bring on the mighty Saginaw.

Here's a couple more pictures from my captures...A couple of mid-doubles.

I had a great time, and between the good weather, good company, and decent fishing it will be hard to top it this year. I too want to thank Larry for going out of his way with his FEASTS, and thanks to Bob for organizing the event.

I'm pumped for Saginaw!
