RESULTS - Dec. 10 Sam Snow Memorial - Holiday Tournament at Joliet

Recommended Posts

One ounce separates Frank Rink and Larry Seeman at December 10 Big 4 Tournament at Joliet; Chad Bettisch places third.  Rink-Seeman go 1-2 in Total Number of Carp contest.

It’s December in northern Illinois, and, perhaps, carp anglers have no business braving temperatures that never exceeded the mid-20’s during the December 10 Sam Snow Memorial - Holiday Tournament at Joliet, IL.

Nevertheless, 11 die-hard answered the call at the 6:30 a.m. peg choice during which windchills were in single digits.

Rather than draw for pegs, we, more often than not, draw for order of peg choice.  This particular tournament saw Connor Reno draw first choice, and he elected to fish at peg 3 at the Jackson Street/Bridge venue.  The remaining ten anglers chose pegs as follows (in choice order):

James Kraft - Peg 1
Chuck Ferczok - Peg 7 at Jackson
Larry Seeman - Peg 2 at Jackson
Anthony Hartung - Peg 3
Victor Zemeckism- Peg 8
Frank Rink - Peg 9
Chad Bettisch - Peg 2
Jim Snyder - Peg 4
Michael Zemeckis - Peg 7
Emilio Montoya - Peg 23

Unfortunately, only three of the eleven participating anglers caught carp during the tournament that had been shortened by an hour due to the forecast for a half foot of snow on the way.  Of the few finicky carp that were captured, most were “morning fish” as 11 of the total of 14 fish recorded for the day were netted prior to 9:45 a.m.

Larry Seeman caught the three biggest fish of the day at 12-9, 12-9, and 12-5.  One small “kicker” of any size would have made a big difference in the overall Big 4 results because Larry’s 37-7 total fell just one ounce short of Big 4 winner Frank Rink’s 37-8 (11-7, 9-13, 8-6, 7-14).

Frank won $110 and a medal for his win-by-one-ounce victory.

Larry took home $70 and a medal for his second place win.

Chad Bettisch pulled in an 8-6 from his south venue peg to pick up the $40 third place prize and medal.

In the optional Total-Number-of-Carp contest, Frank Rink’s 10 carp took the $50 first place purse and medal.

Larry Seeman’s three carp brought Larry $40 and the second place medal.

I just want to say thanks for all that you do Frank.  The tournaments that you run are second to none.  I always  have  great  time at your events, win loose  or draw. So with that bieng said, again a big thank you from myself  and I'm sure many other anglers.

I'll see you on 31st.

Thanks, so much, Chad, for the kind words.  I've decided to go ahead and purchase 2017 liability insurance to give us some Joliet options for 2017.  Based on the relatively slow bite, however, Joliet will be near the bottom of choices for warm-weather tournaments.  Johnson-Sauk Trail, Dawson, etc. will be much better choices for spring, summer, fall events with Joliet serving as a winter venue due to the fact that it rarely freezes.  See you at FFF 2017.  If I can get the insurance, Joliet approval, and IDNR tournament approval wrapped up, I might put together an optional FFF tournament for those who might want to participate. --Frank
