RESULTS - March 25 "Spring Has Sprung" Big 3 Carp Tournament at Joliet, IL

Recommended Posts

Frank Rink picks a lucky peg; Anthony Hartung takes 2nd; Larry Seeman wins the bronze!

Considering the deluge that was forecast for March 25 at Joliet, IL, the  12 angler turnout for the “Spring Has Sprung”  Big 3 Carp Tournament showed some carper tenacity and a willingness to get back on the bank after a long winter.

Thanks and kudos to Chad Bettisch, Cory Bohmann, Tony Donato, Anthony Hartung, Tracy Jourdan, James Kraft, Emilio Montoya, Mike Olinger, Connor Reno, Fred Rhodes, Larry Seeman, and Frank Rink for attending.

About half of us caught fish at the nine-and-a-half hour tournament, during which it rained more than not.

Surprisingly, more carp were caught at the Bicentennial Park pegs (five anglers caught fish) than at the Jackson Street locations (one angler caught fish).

Those who have the first few peg choices don’t necessarily always place as high in the final standings, but Frank Rink had first peg choice and picked peg 1.  That peg was the lucky one for the day as Frank won the Big 3 tournament with a total of 45-2 (16-11, 14-12, 13-15).

Anthony Hartung’s bag of three carp from peg 8 weighed 27-3 (10-14, 8-7, 7-14), and that result was good for the second place medal and related cash prize for Anthony.

Larry Seeman had second peg pick of the day, and he chose wisely, as his 26-7 total (12-15, 8-10, 4-14) from Jackson Street’s peg 3 made it a tight race for the silver medal and earned Larry third place in the Big 3 contest.

Other nice carp that were recorded on a not-so-nice day included a 14-4 by Tracy Jourdan (peg 2) and a 13-1 netted by Chad Bettisch (peg 16).

In the optional Total-Number-of-Carp Tournament, Frank Rink took the top prize with 11 carp from peg 1 and one carp from peg 11 totalling 12 fish (16-11, 14-12, 13-15, 13-8, 12-5, 12-0, 11-8, 10-5, 10-2, 9-9, 8-4, 3-7).

Anthony Hartung (10-14, 8-7, 7-14, 5-4) and Cory Bohmann (7-6, 6-4, 6-1, 5-10) tied for second place in the numbers event with four each.  Anthony won the silver medal and accompanying cash by winning the tiebreaker  with the biggest fish of the bunch (10-14).

The specialty medal and NOAA weather radio went to Cory Bohmann for netting the last carp of the day (3:00 p.m.).

Larry Seeman took home some spring feeders for catching the first fish of the event, a 4-14 caught within five minutes of the 7:35 a.m. opening bell.

Anthony Hartung also won some feeders for the fish caught closest to 11:00 a.m. (10:25).

Thanks, again, to all who attended.  The next Illinois Tournament Series event will be north of the border in Wisconsin for a Big 5 Contest scheduled for April 23 at the harbor in Two Rivers, WI.  Two openings remain for that tournament.  —Frank Rink
