Who can tell me what this fish is? I caught it in the Hudson river (Troy, the non-tidal section), hooking it on the back while reeling in! Those Gama Livebait hooks are sharp!

I was fishing with Iain (well, he was fishing and I was netting most of the time!) and he landed his N+1th carp, but also a bad guy coming with it... Easier to identify...

The master of the tiger nuts himself in action! Even when fishing with a single rod, he outfished me ten to one (not really, but it felt like it!). <_<

I really like the 2nd pic, nice shot early in the morning! cool.gif

Now what are those monster fish? wink.gif

A nice 26 pounder for Iain and yes, I finally did catch my first 20 from the Hudson (23-6, actually).

SheepHead! They use to stock them in a lot of the paylakes up here.

macfish here. I agree with Paul and Tracy, freshwater drum. We commonly call them perch here in northeastern Missouri even though they are not at all related to perch. I caught one that ran about 5 pounds this year on a Quantum micro ultralight rod and reel with 2 pound test. That was a very nice fight! Jonathan

Jerome - the second thing in post 2, is that a lamprey or a hagfish?

Izaak Walton - Author of "The Complete Angler" in 1653 writes: "The carp is the Queen of Rivers: a stately, a good and a very subtle fish that was not first bred, nor hath been long in England."
Izaak also called the carp the river fox - because "is it a very subtle fish and hard to be caught."

Ohh dear!

Can Phone be wrong?

Jerome's fish does not look like a drum to me. I don't exactly know what it is but some of the stuff that identifys a drum to me are different.

Jerome, when you were holding it did it "drum"?

Don't know. My knowledge of US fish is rather limited... So I'm asking you guys... <_<

Iain said it was a lamprey...

No, but I did! tongue.gif Because I was happy to have caught a new PB (of what, I'm not sure, but definitely a PB!).

Definately a drum. They are all over the place in Kansas. I have no idea what the other thing is.
