hi everyone i live near the malden river(in MA) and i see numerous carp there at times and i challange the best angler in the world to cath a carp there. i have fished corn bread, pet food, etc for many hours this year all without out a bite. all i caught was a baby bass about 2 inches long on sweetcorn. So if anyone is in the area and would like to try there(the medford street bridge is the best spot), please tell my if you have succes and what you used cause i am dying to catch a carp.

Name the time, Frankie... And let's go fishing together. I live in Arlington, MA. Any time this week, except today.
I know of at least one angler (Lance) who fishes the Malden river on a regular basis and does catch carp. I have to say that last time I tried out there, all I caught was a big snapping turtle! How do you know that the medford street bridge is the best spot? Do you see the carp jumping a lot out there? or roaming? -------------------- Jerome Moisand, Arlington MA

I was fishing a local pond without much success and decided "ok, let's take Frankie's challenge" since I wasn't too far from this location.
So I drove out there, chummed a bit and set up my stuff close to the bridge. Pretty shallow area. Not much structure. After a while, a teenager came fishing close to me and without much words, threw his rig on the other side of the river (exactly where I thought carp were NOT). With a rather unusual terminal rig, shall we say... And within seconds, he got a hit! After a minute of fight, the fish was subdued and safely landed in my net. The teenager then stated "you wouldn't believe how long I've waiting for this moment", and then I knew my suspicions were right. This was Frankie The Challenger! And the challenger fulfilled his own challenge! Now isn't that neat? Two minutes later, it was my turn and I landed a 9 pounder (ok, a bit bigger than Frankie's fish, I was trying to save face!). We fished 30 minutes more, but without more luck. Frankie told me he had been fishing this spot for the entire summer trying to catch a carp! And that was truly his very first carp. Now who is the lucky charm? -------------------- Jerome Moisand, Arlington MA

Jerome - wonderful story. Really enjoyed reading it. Congratulations Frankie! Stick with it. now that you've caught your first there are bound to be others. macfish /Jonathan
-------------------- Izaak Walton - Author of "The Complete Angler" in 1653 writes: "The carp is the Queen of Rivers: a stately, a good and a very subtle fish that was not first bred, nor hath been long in England."
Izaak also called the carp the river fox - because "is it a very subtle fish and hard to be caught." |

Cool story -- but I have vast experimental evidence that you only bring me bad luck Jerome...

my daughter and i fished there every weekend during summer,i'm guessing we landed over 60
fish from that section of the river upto the canal.some of the largest carp in the mystic river can be found there during the spawn period. i have only caught 1 fish over 20lbs(a 25#)in 20 years on the mystic, but my daughter has caught 2 (22,26)this year on the malden section of the mystic river both during spawn. i'll give you a hint.....................day fresh wonderbread |
