So a bunch of Massholes found their way to Boston, and fished the Charles/Muddy river today. A fish-in on Nov 20th? Is it possible? Can you catch? huh.gif I thought you'd never ask! (right, Horace?)

Well, here is the answer... YES! Almost everybody caught today, and three of us caught at least 5 carp... smile.gif

Very nice organization from Domm, his pre-baiting efforts were much appreciated, and apparently nobody got lost on the way, so the directions must have been good!

When I arrived, rumor was that 10 fish had already been caught. Scott told me the day before he'd be there by 3AM, but he was exaggerating a little bit... He did arrive first and landed a few carp though.

But the first run I witnessed was from our fearless organizer, Domm, who landed a nice ghostie.

I had my Aquavu camera with me, and the carp were definitely there, but didn't appear very eager to eat. We had a nice sighting of a carp eating bread right in front of the camera (and happily ignoring the boilie nearby!). I threw some pescaviva aniseed and this did trigger some feeding, but very finicky.

Airforce Bob swung into action, and landed 2 carp in a row, but one of them wouldn't count, don't you think? <_<

Then it was the turn of the Clough brothers to get their round of successful fall fishing. Corey first...

And Lance next. We didn't have a drop-net, so we had to drag the fish on the side of the bridge, and land them out there!

Krys came all the way from Western MA with his girlfriend. And here is a nice one for Krys. As you can see, we didn't catch any monster, but they were all fighting quite well for a pretty cold weather.

I had two rods in the water, but wasn't paying much attention... After a while, the fishing bug came back to bite me, and I decided to do something about it.

Remembering what we saw on the Aquavu, I decided to shorten the hair, and use one buoyant fake kernel of corn, combined with a single kernel of pescaviva. Since the fish were lightly feeding but in a finicky way, I reasoned that this should take them by surprise. <_<

And sure enough, I kicked everybody's butt... tongue.gif

Starting by this nice fish, which appears to be a crucian carp (or maybe an hybrid). Watch the strange dorsal fin, the huge tail, and it had no barbels.

No, I wasn't that hungry, but I was trying to make the dorsal fin to stand up!

During the day, we were joined by Chris Chiodo, who amazed me by his infinite patience, holding a rod freelining with bread for hours and hours.

Finally it paid off. Domm found a rather interesting way to net the fish, Corey is actually holding his feet, because we couldn't convince ourselves that Domm's body would make proper chum... biggrin.gif

Chris continued on the same strategy until dusk. This isn't a statue, this is Chris! He doesn't move much though!

Then there was this guy Marius, fishing on the left corner and not catching much. Well, maybe he didn't catch much, but he certainly caught the fish of the day! An amazingly beautiful linear mirror. On both sides. It was so beautiful that Marius chose to hide behind the fish, so that we have a better pic!

Now some of you may remember that the first time Domm and I played with the Aquavu, we saw a beautiful linear on the screen... I guess this was it!

John Westbrook and his son (Daniel) came pretty late in the game, but landed one... on Marius' rod!

Poor Chris Tobin came all the way from NH (well, this isn't that far!), caught one early in the morning, then nothing, nada, zip, zilch... So he decided to focus on another quarry, and succeeded to cleverly wrap up his line with a seagull (or it is the reverse way around?).

Having developed a bit of experience with seagulls (thanks to Corey's similar experience a week ago!), I was designated as the "seagull holder". Last week, I was wise and used some gloves. Now it happened that I discussed seagulls with Scott O yesterday and he stated that they really don't bite hard. So I used my bare hands.

Thanks, Scott, you're a real friend, you know... OUCH! And the f%$# bird just wouldn't let go! blink.gif

Anthony (aka Frankie) also came very late, when the fish basically stopped biting. That's too bad, everybody would have loved to see him landing a fish. But it wasn't to be...

Poor Vinny was also unlucky, but who wants to fish close to Domm? rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif

Finally, dusk settled with a nice sunset. Overall, a very nice day, great weather, great company, and something like 25 fish landed, which is pretty good for a fish-in! Yup, we can still fish mid-November, no question.

I wish I could have spent much more time there, but for some reason I have to eat and do my homework instead of fishing?!?! Being the only fisherman in my family, no on else understands that time=fish. O well, maybe next time...

It appears you all had a great day. Your thread just confirms what I said to my wife today. I said "carp angling is more then just catching fish. It is about good people sharing advice, stories, and friendship." I hope that the CAG catches on around here in this area so we to can have meets like you all seem to have. Thanks for sharing the thread.

Steve
