I had the pleasure to fish with a new carp angler (Corey) quite a few times in the past few weeks. He's very enthusiastic, learns fast, and is a real nice guy. Plus he makes great sandwiches! knifefork.gif

When discussing with Corey, two topics tend to come back quite often. The Red Sox (yeah, another fan) and Felisha.

Who is Felisha? Well, Corey's girlfriend. Who is usually quite busy working very hard while we fish... <_<

So we had a plan to make Felisha catch carp. She did it before a couple of times, but definitely needed to catch more. fish.gif

Today was the day! We started at a local warm water discharge, without any discharge of (cold or warm) water... Wasn't good. We were freezing and not catching... Time to move!

So we moved to the spot where our last fish-in in MA was located. We parked the cars nearby in a "cars will be towed" area where I knew from experience cars are never towed!

I wasn't quite sure we would catch a lot given the cold front and low temperature, but was pretty sure we'd catch at least a few.

So the first rod was in the water. 30 seconds later, Felisha was connected with her first carp of the day, a nice 9 pounder!

A few pics, we recast at the same spot, and one minute later, Corey does it as well! The two lovebirds were bouncing with excitement! cool.gif

I thought that after a handful of fish, they would be frightened and move away. But no, we were landing them one after the another. Always the same rod (I couldn't find the time to use another rod!) and the same spot. So we took turns!

Here is Felisha who quickly became expert at playing the fish. And me with a nice ghostie.

Fish after fish, numbers were growing. 9 fish, 12 fish, etc.

I finally succeeded to cast my 2nd rod, and of course, we got a double!

And then Felisha had those magical words: we will catch 30 carp.

Now, I don't know about you, but I have never seen 30 carp being caught on a day (actually half a day). My best score is 20 fish, and this was exceptional! Oh, and we're Nov 23rd, we're in Boston, and it's COLD outside!

So I thought, well, we're real lucky if this school of fish stays there until we have 20 of them, but then this will dry out.

The spirit of my wife then whispered to my ear: "shut up and fish, women are always right!". Sure, honey, sure! <_<

So far, we were catching relatively small fish, the best one was this 9 pounder Felisha landed to start with.

Then Corey had a run. And this one wouldn't stop. And stayed deep. Obviously a nicer fish. I urged him to take his own sweet time before bring this one close to shore. It turns out to be a hefty 18 pounder, which is a real big fish out there!

And a new PB common carp for Corey! Corey & Felisha were bouncing again! thewave.gif

Things started to slow down a bit. Meaning that it was taking a few minutes to get a take instead of a few seconds. 24 carp, 25 carp... Could it be possible that we do reach 30 carp in half a day? huh.gif

We were out of method mix (the use of hemp may have explained the feeding frenzy). Time was running, and we had to leave soon.

Carp #26. I started to do some math. I want Felisha to catch #30. So she has to play #27, we take turns and maybe she'll do it! cool.gif

Carp #27. Oh no, we lose it (we didn't lose many today, five I think). A new run, and this time, Felisha nails it like a pro.

It's getting slower. We have 3 rods in the water now. I really fear that the feeding will end. Carp #28, one more take for Corey. I decide to use a 4th rod, and starts adding sweet corn as bait. We used pescaviva scopex and sweet corn with equal success. This 4th rod will never touch the water... <_<

Carp #29, this one is for me. It's quickly landed, we recast with our hearts pounding. Can we do it? Will it stop at the last minute? blink.gif

Well, it didn't take long, and Felisha was once again fighting a feisty carp. And it is expertly landed. Her prediction was right. WE CAUGHT 30 CARP TODAY!

Yes, the pics of this fish are just awful (dopey the 1st forgot his digital camera -that's me-), so we just had a very poor camera. But hey, this is carp #30, an historic moment in Boston's fishing history! biggrin.gif

Sure enough, my car was towed as you probably guessed from the introduction. Oh well, we went to get it, the usual rip-off took place, but I didn't care that much.

We took 30 fish and had a fantastic day. This is all that counts. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

The lesson of the day: as I've said many times, when it comes to fishing, listen to your better half. They tend to be right, however crazy this might sound... cool.gif rolleyes.gif

Hey, J! That's a sweet story. But all the fish looked alike. Are you sure you didn't use the same fish for all those pics? Just jokin'! It's great to see that people like you help others out. Keep spreading the good word about our beloved carp! cool.gif
