You Just Never Know
When you follow the tales of the DRCFA you begin to expect the unexpected. Carp come and go but a couple of things remain constant. We always wind up laughing and we always have an interesting guest. I can assure you that this week the Ol’Captain and his Crew outdid themselves in both categories. I was joined today by the Wolf pack made up of Chuck “Snap-Daddy” and “Bent Pole” Brent. Joining Brent today was his partner in crime……..the ever popular Alex “The Angler” Schwartz of CLBC fame. But this story isn’t about them and it isn't about me. Today’s tale centers around a wonderful fella from Paris France! Jerome Moisand was born, raised and has spent most of his 42 years in Paris. He and his family now reside in Arlington, Massachusetts. Along with his normal responsibilities as a husband, father and employee, he also is an avid (to say the least) Carp Angler. In fact, he is the current VP of the Carp Anglers Group (http://www.carpanglersgroup.com/ ). He also serves as editor of the North American Carp Angler Magazine (http://www.carpanglersgroup.com/naca.html). Jerome has traveled the world and has been reading our tales for years. He contacted me a while back about a trip to Atlanta so we decided to set something up. Jerome has ridden bicycles under the Arc de Triomphe. He has caught Carp all over the world. He loved the Louvre but something was still lacking in his life. Just what did Jerome need to make his life complete? I thought you’d never ask………………. One can travel the world and see the sights but can he really be a man until he eats an All-Star breakfast at the Lee Rd Waffle House? I think not! Until you’ve had a Pull-Down on the Hooch can your life really be complete? Of course not! I felt it my duty as an American to see that Jerome’s life was finally fulfilled. After enjoying the fine WH fare we headed to the Hooch. The Captain’s Crew showed up and soon had a blazing fire going! ![]() Now most of you know that Carpin is serious business with the Ol’ Captain. Today would be no different. We had company and as usual we would put our best foot forward. We must behave today and make a good impression. There would be absolutely no clowning around .......……… ![]() Jerome was kind enough to give us a mini Carpin Clinic. Not only did he share some of his tricks of the trade but he also became our first eligible entry in our DRCFA Christmas Carp Contest with his 5 pound, 5 oz Golden Ghost! ![]() ![]() ![]() But what about the Ol” Captain? Now that he is eligible, how did he do? Swan Lake or Fowl Play? After lunch we changed venues. Chuck met Jerome and I at Sweetwater Park for a short afternoon session. Although no fish were caught I had the local Swans eating out of my hand……………. ![]() Not only that but I also managed to catch a Coot! Being my first Coot on a hook and line I would have to call it my Personal Best! After some discussion we decided to practice our usual Catch and Release………. ![]() ![]() We ended our day with a wonderful supper at the hands of my precious Mother-In-Law, Dot Gifford…………….. ![]() Joining us for dinner were other DRCFA members “Sir Charles” Turner, Shane “The Professor” Tucker and Donald “Bait Daddy” Baker. To see these and other pictures of the day and evening please click on the slideshow below. The charming young lady with Sir Charles is his beautiful daughter, Cally. http://photobucket.com/albums/y111/olcapta...true&interval=3 Until Next Time, The Ol' Captain -------------------- Horace F. What can I say? Good waffle breakfast, great company, first carp in GA, discovering a first-class venue (this Sweetwater Park is a gem of a lake, and 30+ giants are roaming out there), a terrific dinner & fantastic hospitality, this is Horace & friends for you...
A little (well, big!) bird told me that a new endeavor dubbed Georgia Carp Adventure will soon be launched, with a package including trip to GA, a 20+ catch -almost- guaranteed, unique entertainment, and a never-to-be-forgotten dinner. But shh... You didn't hear it from me... Oh... and yes, my life is FULFILLED! That is, almost, I still have a few goals in mind... And mark my words, this Sweetwater Lake has a great (angling) future. -------------------- Jerome Moisand, Arlington MA

Great going guys. Just catching one from the Hooch this time of year is quite an accomplishment. It's usually so thick and muddy that you could track a rabbit across it.

Wow, this looks like it was a very fun time, with lots of good food and fishing. It can't get too much better than that.

macfish here. Captain/Horace and Jerome - certainly looks like you guys had a wonderful time together. Too bad is was during cooler less hospitable weather. With better weather I'm sure there'd be more fish and even more fun. Every time I see one of the Captain's posts I always know I'll read it and be left with a warm spot in my heart and sure enough it happened again. I don't know if CAG has a hospitality chairman or need of one but I think the ol' Captain would be up at the top of the list. Jonathan
-------------------- Izaak Walton - Author of "The Complete Angler" in 1653 writes: "The carp is the Queen of Rivers: a stately, a good and a very subtle fish that was not first bred, nor hath been long in England."
Izaak also called the carp the river fox - because "is it a very subtle fish and hard to be caught." |

It appears more and more that CAG is a lot more than just an online club and carp forum. So many of you guys know each other and travel all over to meet & fish. That is unusual and special.
Anyway, congrats on a great trip and that coot PB. I'm still looking for my first. What did you use for bait? lol I love that hat! But I'm wondering if the windsock is missing at the local landing strip? And the meal was worth the picture. Other than the comradeship, perhaps the highlight of the trip? |

The Coot was caught on Pescaviva (spelling?) and regular sweet corn. Although it was caught on a hair rig the catch cannnot be recorded. Rumor is the Coot was actually fowl hooked. There were many highlights but one was listening to Jerome pronounce "Horace" without the "H" sound Any of you guys coming to Atlanta soon? Come see us! The Ol' Captain -------------------- Horace F. But I'm wondering if the windsock is missing at the local landing strip? And the meal was worth the picture. Other than the comradeship, perhaps the highlight of the trip? Hi Ken - Great observation. In fact, CAG started out as a social fishing club focussed on carp. It really continues to that. The whole internet, web forum, part of it is an added bonus. When the club started, the internet was in its infancy. Over the years, we have found that the internet is a very helpful tool in getting out the good news about carp, and for exchanging ideas, and making new friends. However, we still have many members who don't even have internet access. For them, the Paper NACA remains the primary benefit of membership. The internet can help get people interested, but the best way to really hook 'em on carp fishing is to go fishing together and have fun. The most successful states seem to be the ones where a core group of local guys get together to catch carp regularly. It's a blast and a cool way to spend a day. -------------------- Regards,
