I don't know if this is such a great achievement though...
Well, I caught my very first goose today. The darn thing loved my maize + Wackerbait's Obsession flavor, it started to tangle itself with the line of my left rod... Got very excited... Bite alarm screamed... Dove right on my right rod... Got tangled in it as well... 2nd bite alarm screamed... I had an interesting time cutting some of the line, dragging the goose in my reach, catching it (was much lighter than I thought!), untangling it and remove all pieces of line... Ever tried to untangle something with a single hand? (the other hand was busy keeping the goose beak out of my fingers and... nose! Yeah, I have a big nose, but I'd prefer to keep it the way it is!) And man, was it entangled... Oh well, I succeeded to remove all the line and free the goose. I don't think it was harmed aside from having its feelings severely hurt by all the swears I issued during the entire process... PS. nope, no pic. Yeah, I know, uncharacteristic of me, but I was too busy swearing... PS2. can we eat geese for Halloween? I know how to catch them now! Paul, your flavor should be renamed "Obsession for Geese". Not the first time I noticed they love it. You're onto something! -------------------- Jerome Moisand, Arlington MA

Jerome,
I certainly hope that you weren't experimenting with an idea for a new "challenge" for the CAGI. I believe that Louis and Donnie have encountered similar circumstances at Phily fish ins. I think they have pics of the event too. |

QUOTE (K-1 @ Mar 11 2006, 08:44 PM) In the process, it did lose a few scales, er... I mean, feathers... But nah, it stayed decent, no naked skin at the end! I think I better understand the "goose chase" wording now... -------------------- Jerome Moisand, Arlington MA

I never caught a goose but I have caught a few pelicans and sea gulls. Come to think of it I caught some big turtles as well. Nice story Jerome.

QUOTE much lighter than I thought! Most birds are deceptive. The heaviest bird in North America is the Brown Pelican at 33 lbs avg. I don't know if that's including payload. My understanding is that Canada Geese (most of whom never leave Ohio FYI, The heaviest bird that can fly is the Great Bustard. Estimates put it up to 20 kg, although 18 kg seems more common. I have had my experiences with geese, but worst of all are sea gulls, or at least what appear to be sea gulls, I am in TN so I doubt their legitimacy, but anyways. The gulls of whatever origin they may be are fearless creatures who will take your bread on the back cast, which has happened to me twice. But canadian geese have to be some of the worlds dumbest creatures. I fish topwater bread alot and a goose chased it as I reeled it from him and bit into it hooking itself, and then I had a kite. The bikers and joggers found it hilarious, the old lady feeding the ducks did not and called the cops stating I was hurting geese and my fishing their was a threat to the geese and I should leave since I wasn't any more careful than I was. MORE CAREFUL, I reeled it in to avoid the dumb creature. Anyways the cop shared my point of view that they are worthless birds and it is a waste of his time to deal with them, he said if they had a season for them he would pay double to shoot them himself. 2 weeks later over 50 canadian geese were removed and sent elsewhere. Unfortunatly they have returned.
