biggrin.gif

Well I drove down to RI to attend a local fish-in. Dave Pickering picked a beautiful spot for us to fish. Can you guess what weather was? Rain, Rain and more Rain. titanic.gif
There were some nice fish caught but not by me. sad.gif I lost three fish using chick peas.
Jerome did manage to catch his first RI carp. A tough little guy who ran off a lot of line. biggrin.gif When I was leaving I saw a guy fighting a big fish at the dam on a very small pole. I pulled over to give him a hand. After a long fight he landed a nice 12 lbs common on 6lbs test. He had a big crowd around looking at his fish. The best part was that he had come down to try carp fishing after reading an article in the local paper. I unhooked the fish, we talked about carp and he released his fish to fight another day. He is hooked now biggrin.gif . Thanks Dave for a fun day.

Fortunately, the rain was bad early in the morning, but most of the day was ok. Dave and I ran off towards home when it started to rain hard again at the end of the afternoon, leaving Bob all alone! rolleyes.gif That's ok, he's a tough guy... tongue.gif

Actually, DaveP emphasized that such weather probably helped since otherwise this state park & pond being so beautiful, there are MANY people running around, boating, swimming, etc...

Here we had the pond to ourselves, and yes, this is a gem of a pond. When I arrived in the morning, the first sight was a nice covered bridge. Then after driving around the pond in beautiful surroundings, I finally found the meeting point, and I was so impressed by the view of the pond with the mist, woods on one side, rocks on the other side (where I end up setting up), a small dam. Really nice. And I did see the islands yet (a spot where we moved later on).

Thanks to an article by a local journalist, in addition to the few regulars, quite a few folks showed up, curious to learn about carp fishing. DaveP, being the teacher that he did, did a fantastic job of educating the crew.

Sadly, carp weren't biting much. One of the regulars (John Joseph, I believe) finally hooked one and let his kid play it. Was a nice long fight, but the kid made it.

A few more pics... Some of them courtesy of Dave.

Entrance to the park.

A wonderful old couple of british people who fished with a float and a strange bite indicator system I had never seen, that you connect at the end of the tip of your rod (sorry, should taken a pic of this set-up!).

Heavy rain...

My first fishing spot, from the rocks. Since we can't use corn in RI, I tried to be creative with my bait and found something which should have worked given the name! Alas, it didn't...

Attached Image

Then we moved to another wonderful spot, in front of a series of small islands. And Dave started to show us how it's done...

Attached Image

And finally, I got my precious first carp from RI. It fell to a chick pea dipped in scopex.

Dave, many thanks for a very pleasant day and very nice job attracting and educating people. I will definitely come back and try this venue again. Only one hour of driving from Boston, this is great.

Many thanks to Bob and Jerome for coming down to our RI fish-in. Their presence really added to the event, and their company was great.

Also, I might add that Tom Meade, Providence Journal sports writer, did a wonderful story on our event and carp fishing in general. That article brought a whole bunch of fishermen to the shore to ask questions and learn about carp fishing. You'll see more and more of them doing it in RI I believe.

And now.....for the rest of the story. All of us left in the early evening. Well, my fifteen year old son, Ben, wanted to know where we threw in all the bait. I told him and he went there about an hour before dark with one of his buddies and in a short period of time they landed three commons from 10-12 lbs.!

Thanks again to everyone who helped make this event a success.

I'm glad a few fish were caught , sorry I could'nt make It , after waiting years for a RI fish-in I had another commitment I could not cancel mad.gif The rain seems to be targeting all the northeast fish-ins this year, hopefuly it will stay away for the CAGI.

Nice event! It is wonderful to see so many fish-ins being held around the country. Thankyou David for putting this one together. It looks like you had a very respectable turnout as well as some nice fish.
