Well, I wanted to catch a December fish in MA that wouldn't be taken in the couple of spots where we know they congregate in the winter. Which I had never done before...

So I went fishing this afternoon at a more difficult venue (the one where I caught the very dark 25 pounder earlier this year). No prebaiting at all, was all an impulse decision. Got nothing for 2 hours. Moved to another swim. Got nothing for an hour. Then 4 things happened more or less at the same time. Rain started to pour. I started to wrap up in a hurry. I got an unexpected run. Iain called me on my cell. I am not exactly sure where is the cause and the effect here. rolleyes.gif So well, I asked Iain to call me later, I finished playing my fish (and landed it -mid teen-), and rain poured more & more.

So I caught my December fish. On Dec 1st! Lucky! I don't have a pic (camera was wrapped up and out of reach, and did I mention that rain was pouring?), but well, I'm very happy with this catch. smile.gif

So now, as a warm-up for the FFF, why don't you guys give it a try? Forget the warm water discharges for a few more weeks. Try to catch a December fish in regular spots. Or new ones. And post your adventures on this thread!

Well, I mentioned that Iain called me on Friday. The point was to go fish together and catch a December carp, of course. Little did we know that fishing would be so productive today.

Iain got 7, including two (or was it three?) low twenties. I joined him later in the morning, landed three including a 20-4lb. And Corey got one from another location, then joined us and landed a nice 17lber. Plus we missed a couple of runs into snags.

Weather was pretty windy, but nothing like what Mario experienced, this is for sure! blink.gif

So, seeing Scott's report on another thread, we have a good number of upper teens and twenties to report for 2 days of December fishing in MA... cool.gif

So what is the answer of the other states? Come on, you can't leave MA unchallenged like that... Go catch a December fish! <_<

Nice Jerome! That's awesome. Smart of you to keep that camera away from the water. We all know that past performance is a pretty good indication of the future smile.gif

Pat,
Good luck to ya. This is my first season out past November 14th.
What Kind of line do you use when your fishing in freezing conditions? My PP loves to absorb water and turn to ice ph34r.gif

All right, challenge taken, Andy. Bring it on, as you say.

Want to bet I'll catch a fish before you on Jan 1st? If you win, I'll send you a nice old carping book (BB confessions, a classic). If I win... I expect you to commit to organize a CAGI event in your home state. Actually, that's my expectation as well even if I lose. blink.gif Hmmm. Oh well, doesn't matter since I'm gonna win anyway. laugh.gif

Mono works great but it doesn't get quite as cold around here as it does in Michigan wink.gif

The main problem I have with braid is that the water sticks to it and then ends up clogging the guides with ice when I'm reeling in. wacko.gif
