So this year also Mexico participated. It was up to Fernando Barrientos (from Bolivia) en me to defend the honor. Not a single Mexican participating by the way
We arrived at the lake at 9.00 due to some party obligations the night before. With very little sleep, we started on our usual island spot. After one hour, the first little common came out. The next hour was quite busy, but then the wind died on us and so did the action. We had to work really hard to get some more bites and most fish were very small. Just for Neil, I did my best to catch a mirror which resulted in a nice looking fully scaled little bugger. The second only I ever caught in Mexico. Also, I managed to improve my Mexican PB to 18 pounds and 12 ounces. I know, no biggy, but for Nuevo Leon a pretty decent fish. It actually beat the state record by 2 pounds. All in all we had a lot of fun. Fernando caught a few fish and I caught most on my float rod and garbanzo's as bait. The boilies produced mainly catfish (9), which obviously had completely stuffed themselves with my canned sardine boilies. You could actually see the boilies stick out from the grossly fat bellies Most carp came on flavored "horse tooth" maize and garbanzo's. Some on canned maize and a few on boilies. Water temperature was almost 60. Too bad... Here are some pics.... The first one: ![]() Fernando fighting a small but strong fish...

After fishing, we filled up a big garbage bag with trash other people left behind. My first good CAG deed for 2007. Nature conservation is not quite a topic that's high on the agenda of the average Joe (or Juan) living around this lake. And I don't think it ever will be. But at least this spot looks a bit cleaner now
Feliz Año Nuevo a todos!!! Mario -------------------- |
