2007 Carp Anglers Group Invitational (CAGI)
Ohio- Great Lakes Regional Saturday June 23, 2007 Scioto River, Downtown Columbus, Ohio We will have on the same day simultaneous fish-ins in multiple regional venues across North America, all following the same rules. This type of event allows CAG members that could not attend Austin (the ATC) or Indianapolis (the CCC) to participate in an "official CAG event", as well as have an opportunity to invite guests to this national event. Ohio will be holding the Great Lakes Regional on this day. Our location decided has been the Scioto River in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. This is a decent sized fertile river, with many types of structure. Fish up to 29 lbs have been landed here, with a mirror 4 years ago topping 25 lbs. On an average day, an angler can expect to land 15-20 carp with a little work. Some days more, others less. Average size 8-15lbs. In 2005, we hosted the CAGI on this same body of water. We had 31 anglers, catching 67 fish, totaling over 582 lbs. A fee of $10 per angler (CAG member or guest) will be requested. CAG members are exempted from the $10 fee if they come with one guest or more (but guests have to pay their own fee). CAG members can come with up to two guests. Regional awards are based on weights of carp captured in a given regional event: • Big Fish • Top 4 • Total Weight For full rules, visit: http://www.carpanglersgroup.com/cagiguide.html For those interested, we ask that you register online at http://www.carpanglersgroup.com/CAGIregistration.html By doing so, you help us in our paperwork, and make things much easier for us. Payments can also be made in advance on the registration page via PayPal. Payments will be accepted on the day of the event, but it will be a first come first serve basis. We will be limited to 45 participants. Those who pre-register early will have a guaranteed spot. We will also be having a Big Fish competition. Entry into this will be an additional $10. This needs to be paid the day of the event in cash, or sent in a separate check made out to ,Phil Davenport, prior to June 11th. If you would like to send this check, please email me at, radaarphl@aol.com, for my address. If you are paying for Big Fish the day of the event, have your $$ ready for registration. Motel Reservations Comfort Suites of Columbus 5547 Keim Circle Columbus OH 43228 1 614 870-7658 Comfort Suites of Columbus is 7 miles West of our CAGI location. Fairly easy to get to from here. If you book through World Web at http://www.worldweb.com]http://www.worldweb.com ] for 2 beds the quoted price is $69.00 / night. This is about the best we can do fairly close to the event that particular weekend. If you don’t mind a longer drive, we can get you something from further out. Just contact me and let me know. Camping: http://www.ohio.reserveworld.com/OspRedire...px?p=R&i=24 Alum Creek State Park Campground 18 miles from event site. Friday, June 22, 2007 Social Event 7:00PM- ??? Barley’s is a Brew Pub featuring great brews, as well as a FANTASTIC assortment of foods from burgers to full smoked platters. Out of 1-10, I rate this place at a 10.5!!! Hands down the BEST smoked foods we have every had. We have chosen this for the social event because of the atmosphere, as well as the outstanding food and drink. Their website can be found at: http://www.barleysbrewing.com/enews/ Directions: From the Motel Mentioned Above: Take I-70E to I-670E, exit 96. Take I-670E to the Grandview Exit, Exit 1. Turn Slight Right onto Grandview Road. Turn left onto US-33 / Dublin Road. You will see Barley’s Smokehouse on the Right hand side about 200 yards from the US 33/Grandview Road intersection. Saturday, June 23, 2007 Carp Anglers Group Invitational (CAGI) Scioto River, Downtown Columbus, Ohio Getting here isn't hard at all. It's smack dab in the middle of Downtown right in front of COSI (Center of Science and Industry). 1 area is all concrete, the other is rock. If you are coming from the motel above: I-70 East to Exit 97 Broad Street. Take the exit and go East on Broad (Toward Downtown). Follow this until you are ready to cross the river. There will be a drive right before the bridge called Washington Street on the Right. Take this drive. On the map it says "busses Only". Don't worry about that. You can park along this on the left side, and drop off your gear. If the COSI lots are open, you may park there. If not, you will have to drive across the river to park Again, if you need further directions from home, etc. contact me and we will get you taken care of. Easier to do it that way. Here is a map of the fishing location. The areas marked in red "X's" are the areas we will fish. http://www.cosi.org/files/Image/graphics/map.gif The fish-in itself will last 10 hours. The typical schedule will be the following: • Participants gather around 6AM; take some time to explore the venue • Pre-Registered participants check in / sign in. • Participants scales are checked for accuracy against a calibration weight o Not everybody needs to bring a precise scale, one for 2 or 3 anglers is usually enough • The peg draw occurs around 7AM; here is the typical procedure: Everyone will draw a number. #1 draws a peg number 1st, #2 2nd, etc. CAG members draw a peg first, before guests CAG members may pre-empt the peg on their right side or left side for one of their guests, if the peg has not been drawn yet Then remaining guests draw their peg • Once the peg is known, participants get a scorecard, then can go to their peg right away and start plumbing or pre-baiting • Fish-in from 8AM to 6PM (local time) o From 8AM to 10AM, participants have to stay in their peg o Starting from 10AM, participants are allowed to move to another (non occupied) peg, or to a swim where they don’t interfere with other anglers. The area must be a peg not occupied. o A participant has to stay at shouting distance from another participant • Participants gather around 6:15PM to submit their scorecard with their results o Please report it in any case, even if you didn’t catch anything • A couple of group pictures of all participants are taken, plus pics of winners • Regional results are computed by the regional organizer and double-checked by a participant/helper • Regional awards ceremony occurs. Sunday, June 24th, 2007 After-CAGI Fish-In Alum Creek State Park Marina Peninsula 7:00AM until ???? This is the same area we hold our yearly Fish-In’s at. The peninsula from the Marina. Lots of fish, some smaller ones, but most are larger. This time of year can be tough with boat traffic, so be sure to be prepared for all the traffic. Also, the lake has an abundance of Zebra Mussels. This is a great food source for the carp, and has also cleaned the waters tremendously. Directions: From Above Mentioned Motel: Take I-70E to I-71 N. Follow I-71N to US 36/US37/Alum Creek Exit in Sunbury. Take the exit, and turn left. Follow 36/37 across Alum Creek to Luckey Old State Road. Turn Left on Old State Road. Follow this until Hollenback Road. Turn Left (there will be signs showing direction to Marina. Brown and white signs). Follow this to the marina. Park down by the marina house, and we will be on the peninsula that is really a breakwall protecting the marina from the main lake. You will see us. All Others…. Alum Creek is off I-71 at the US 36/US37/Alum Creek Exit in Sunbury. Just go to http://www.mapquest.com]http://www.mapquest.com ] if you are not staying at the motel mentioned above, and figure it out from there, or contact me. Scooby Doo Competition This competition was left up to the regional organizers whether to have the event, or not to. I have decided not to for various reasons. Highest on that list was for the safety of the fish. With Warm waters this time of year, and long fight times that are possible on one of these small lightweight rods / line, can cause un-needed stress on the fish. For the fish’s safety, we will not participate in the Scooby Doo Competition. If I have left out any information, PLEASE contact me ASAP so I can add it or change it. We hope to see you there! Should be a great weekend once again! |

Shawn, Richie taught me how to play the quarter game at East Harbor. It was fun, but I didn't win. My grandson did and it made his whole fishing trip.

Have it at O'Shaughnessy or Griggs reservoir in a couple years. Plenty of big fish to be caught.

Question: If my girlfriend is one of my "guests" would she be able to fish the same peg or have to pick another? Just wondering, she has her own pod/rods but we share everything else. Chances are she won't be fishing though.

Ryan, I believe the way it works, you tell us before the draw she's your guest and she gets the peg next to you. I'll check on this to make sure I'm right. Your allowed two guest, if you didn't know.
