So here goes for NL...I hope Sal, Jorge and Oscar jump in later to share their experiences.
We had 13 participants (3 CAG members) actively fishing the CAGI in Nuevo Leon including two ladies; Mario Kok (CAG), Jose Arellano (CAG), Edgar Aguilar, Rodolfo Rangel (CAG), Rob Keij, Kees Bleijenberg, Albert Chico, Danta Molina Perez, Andy Fraga, Dante Molina Moncada, Ivan Cambero, Mayra Aguirre and Mayra Mayela. We all got together early in the morning, had our "sorteo" for the spots and started explaining right away about hair rigs, special carp hooks, boilies and maiz, boilie needles etc. Some guys wanted to "doughball" their way through the event and some got themselves some hair rigs and heavy leads to go Euro style. When we started fishing, the first hour was quiet. Not too much going on. This was until at 10.15 Rodolfo Rangel, our newly appointed Chair for Tamaulipas hooked into his first fish. Fight on, everybody left their sport to watch Rodolfo fight a strong little fish on his newly acquired long rod and baitrunner reel. Actually, this is what happened every time someone was fighting a fish. Everybody joined to see the fight, laugh, make jokes, give advice. It was real fun. The weighting procedures turned into guessing events with great cheers if someone got the number right. Men turned into kids, with pink cheeks and a sparkle in their eyes. Soon, more people were getting into some fish, especially after I made a round of baiting up. It became clear that the Euro rods were cleaning up. Rob, a complete virgin in terms of fishing, managed to do very well with the rods he was borrowing from me. I got several fish as well and also Jose Luis caught on the 12 footers. It became clear that casting close to 80-90 yards was key to reach the fish. Edgar and Kees were actually the only participants catching some fish on the traditional gear (albeit modified with hair rigs and flavored maize). Soon, almost everybody switched to Euro rigs and some even dared to try some PVA, which was certainly paying off for me. I used calf feed pellets in my PVA distance bags with a boilie made of the same stuff lying right next to it. This ultimately proved to be the winning strategy. During all this, we had three camera crews filming the event (one national fishing program), a reporter from the local newspaper, two representatives of SAGARPA, the federal fishery organization, the local office of turisme and later on also the mayor and his three bodyguards on the spot. Also, many friends came to watch and help us empty the huge beer filled cooler. Carta Blanca, Productos Palma and www.carpeando.com were our local sponsors. I think at some point we had easily 30-40 people there making it a very successful first ever carp fishing even in Nuevo Leon. The town of Villa de Santiago has been helping us tremendously in putting carp fishing on the map in Nuevo Leon and for sure there will be a lot of follow-up with the SAGARPA guys who showed an incredible interest in what we were doing. A the end of the event, we also planted three trees to provide future shadow areas for our kids and give the CAGI an ecological touch. Many thanks to Rodolfo for providing the trees to us. The winners (after taking myself out) were as follows: Big Fish 1. Jose Arellano 2. Rob Keij 3. Edgar Aguilar Total Weight 1. Rob Keij 2. Rodolfo Rangel 3. Jose Arellano Top four: 1. Rob Keij 2. Rodolfo Rangel 3. Jose Arellano I'll upload the pictures later because I need to adjust all sizes first Thanks CAG and thanks Jerome (by the way, the T-shirts just came in -------------------- |

That was a great silent movie you gave us here. No words, but it felt like being right in the middle of what was happening. Thanks a lot for sharing, and for delivering a fantastic first CAGI/Mexico.

Just wanted to add some pics from a gadget the Queretaro gang put up during the event:
They got a Touch Screen up and running, with regular updates about captures and pictures. This way, all participants could actually check their position during the event. Pretty fancy if you ask me.
