This is going to be my first CAGI and I think I am not prepared for it at all. Could anyone tell me a little about the water, bottom, fish species and the bait used by the locals?
Thanks alot. Airbubbles -------------------- |

Airbubbles Folks, we're speaking of Lake Onondaga, close to Syracuse. I know some of you have experience with it... Airbubbles, if I forget tonight when back home, don't hesitate to send me a reminder PM, I'll give you the cell phone # of a local guy who will have all the answers to your questions. -------------------- Jerome Moisand, Arlington MA

I grew up on the water. Fish it like you would any other water. There are a ton of zebra mussels, so make sure you have some tubing. There are a ton of carp in the water, but are generally smaller in size. There is a alot of competition between the fish. These fish eat anything that is yellow. Let me know if you have any more questions. See you there....good luck!

Cornycarp,
I've never had the need for cut offs so I don't have any tubings. Will 80lb pp do the job? Is there a local tackle shop carry tubbings? Do I have to worry about catfish? Thanks for the reply. -------------------- |

There are no tackle shops that carry the tubing around here. With 80 pp, you should be fine. There are more than 40 species of fish in that lake, you may run into a catfish or 2. Hopefully the fish will not be spawning, and alot are caught. I know last year only 3 or so fish were caught. Everything looks in our favor though.

Bubbles,
This tournament is very informal. My son and I have been in the last 2 years he has a 1st place youth and a 2nd place youth 1st year he caught 1 I caught 1, last year he caught 1. So fishing might be slow but very laid back and the organizer gives away a ton of good door prizes. Some guys have all the fancy equipment but most of us just go out and relax and wait for the line to go tight. All you need is a couple rods a can of corn (BIG CAN) and munchies for yourself. See you this weekend I'll be wearing the shirt that says " So many fisherman, So little time" As quoted by the Giant Mosquito. Or the shirt that says " Carpe Carpio". Good luck Bill |

Bubbles,carphd,
I will also be there. If you want some tubing let me know I'll bring some extra for you no problem!! I have also fished that water for a long time, and yes everything COrny carp says is right on. Lots of fish, lots of zebras. For the last few years the weather has been massively hot, and the fish are spawning, this Saturday is looking to be a bit cooler around 77 degrees, so hopefully we will get into the fish better then years past. Last year I was lucky enough to get a nice 13lb carp on a Blood V-2 boilie mid day, this year I got a few tricks up my sleeve to try and get more then 1 fish on the bank!! I will be there early in the morning at least 1 hour before the event. I am 6' 2" and 320lbs bald head tattoos, and will either have a shirt on says GOT BOILIES?? or a team red demon shirt. Feel free to stop by and say hi both of you guys, as I have not met you 2 yet!!! This event is always a blast, good people, informal get together, and if the fish are on, you wont sit down, I know anyone who fished the ACS regionals will agree with me on that! If anyone needs anything feel free to pm me, I will give my number to anyone who needs info, or whatever for Saturday!! Thanks Frank |

I just spoke with Steve Ware, the new regional organizer (and a very good angler), and he's baiting very intensively, so he has good hopes of having many more catches than last year. Weather prediction seems also quite fishing-friendly. Sounds like you guys will have a good time.

Finally an organizer who has a brain and not completely full of s$%t. I met Steve 3 years ago during a CAG-I by chance, I had a cooler full of cold beverages, it was like 93 degrees out, so hey we hung out and had a fun-fishless day!
I have had my eye on the weather for a few days now, it has changed a bit, but for the better. Now 3 days away the weather looks perfect for Carp in Onondaga Lake. Bring corn and lots of it, worst thing to be catching and run out of bait halfway through the day! As Corn ball said, we'll be fishing by one another, so stop by and say hi!! Corny - better bring that darn Demon shirt, ya know the black one!!! twins - LMFAO Lets have a good time and catch some fish finally!! Frank ps- corny I got those "things" as well!! |

Bubbles,
If it is Onondaga, then there are lots of zebras. Only fished it once, but had several over twenty. Lost more to the zebras than I caught. Used only flavored tuity flavored maize and 40lb pp. I suspect that there are many good fish (fished 4 to 5 hours with 10 or more runs), but can't confirm size. Biggest fish 23+. Heavy mono (17+ scratches but the zebras don't seem to cut it as easy) may be you're best bet. The fish did not seem the least bit line shy, but boat traffic could be a problem. I'd love to get back there for a session this year, and probabaly will. Good Luck, Chris C. |

Lets see, 2 bald headed tatoo guys, My long haired hippie 12yr old and my oldest toothless brother from Arizona(flew into syracuse last night). I'll have a chance of winning the "best looking carper" contest. This post has been edited by Carphd: Jun 21 2007, 04:26 AM |

The difference in the 2 blad guys firstly is I am bald by choice, and I am the one with the tattoos. Adam, well is lightly
balding by nature, and has ghost white skin!!! Never seen someone use so much sun block, but yet I am the one always complaining after a sessions that I'm burnt, so I guess he's the smarter one here!! See ya'll there on Saturday!! Frank |
