The Tennessee CAGI was one word HOT ! With the actual temperature in the mid ninety's, the high humidity and the lack of breezes, the heat index must've hit 110 degrees. We had 8 participants and due to bank space problems we broke down into 2 teams of 4 anglers each. The South Crew on the lower side of the Harrison Bay and the North Crew on the north side of Harrison Bay.

I picked out the location for the North Crew and got it prepped for the CAGI ... the spot I picked out would be comfortable for 2 anglers but a little cramped. 3 would be pushing it ... and we squeezed in 4 of us with our pods just a few feet apart. At one point Dennis Moneypenny hooked a rather spirited 13 pounder and before it was over 4 rods were tangled together ! Kudos to Angela for painstakingly unraveling the mess of braid and rigs biggrin.gif

It was snuggle up and get to know your buddy at our swim and in this heat we reminded me of french fries in a deep fat fryer basket. Packed into that small spit of land was John and Angela Bramley, Dennis and myself. Add in the Bramleys 2 small children and a dog and it was like a chinese fire drill with method buckets !

The South crew tried everything they could to put fish on the board for this event. They went as far as to pack out of South Harrison Bay and set up everything again below the Chickamauga Dam. Kent Glass, Dale Holmes, Brian McGill and Charles Whitted put in one hell of an effort to no avail. Kent hooked up with a nice fish to only have the hook length let go. Thanks for putting in so much effort in the conditions Guy's I know it was frustrating and I wish it had went better for you.

In the cramped quarters of the North Crew it would've been easy to lose your patience in our tightly sealed pressure cooker. But instead everyone acted like a well oiled machine and helped one another at every step. If you hooked a fish you didn't have to worry about landing it .. or hauling it up to the unhooking mat ... or weighing and photographing it ... that was all taken care of for you. Fish On meant that you could enjoy the battle ... get your rig re-baited and back in the water .. and then smile for the pic biggrin.gif

We attacked our new swim with a plan ... we would use only one flavor of method/pack and hook baits. We banked all of our CAGI hopes and dreams on Juicy Tutti Fruity. It was a calculated risk ... but in such a tight location we couldn't see any reason why we should confuse the waters with multiple flavors. Juicy it was and Juicy we were ... OMG it was maddeningly hot.

The heat fried everything today including my brain even though I kept myself shaded as much as I could my face still looks like a stop sign. Luckily we have the pics and fish logs so I can show you how it went. I had 17 runs that resulted in 16 fish to the net. One fish was lost to a snag and the other time I had fish on both rods so Dennis kindly landed that one biggrin.gif

I was testing some new gear today ... hooks, alarms, braid and P-Line CXX Shock Leaders ... and I couldn't have been more pleased. Out of 16 times of setting the hook I put 15 fish in the net. Yes I had a good day for 4 of us cramped into an efficiency swim made for two. But my results were only possible because of Dennis, John, and Angela netting and weighing all of my fish. Without them I would've been in a heat related coma by noon. Thanks Guy's biggrin.gif

Dennis was a god send to me today ... fishing just to my right he went out of his way to help me out with my fish. I got to net some of his and take pics of him with his camera ... so he can post those pics himself. He got off to a slow start but picked up speed as you will see in the total poundage biggrin.gif

As a joke after taking a pic of him ... and while he was still tending to his fish ... I snapped some photo's of his hamburger he hadn't had a chance to finish eating with his camera. I thought it would be funny for him to find them when he got home biggrin.gif

Turns out that John was having the same fun with MY camera and I now have more pics of Angela on there than I do fish !

laugh.gif Nice one John !

My Wife might wonder about that one laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Final Results for Tennessee :

Big Common - 26-4 - Wayne Trapp

Big Mirror - 12-9 - Wayne Trapp

Total Weight - 227-5 - Wayne Trapp

Carp King of Tennessee - Wayne Trapp

If I didn't have a stellar day I don't know what it was !

Jerome called at the end of the day and asked who got what. All of our crew was standing around me while I reported biggest common, biggest mirror, total weight ... and I realized that my face was turning red .. and this time not from the heat. To have the likes of the Bramleys and Dennis Moneypenny congratulating me for pulling off the hat trick in Tennessee was a fine end to an absolutely perfect day in hell. It was god awful hot ... and oh so heavenly sweet biggrin.gif -Wayne-

Thanks Justin !

It was a day of pain and success. I couldn't have pushed myself any harder .. or done as well without the North Crew in this event. I will never forget this one ! smile.gif

Looks like nighttime would be a better time to carp fish in this area unless you have prebaited the prefect deep area. The south crew had a pretty miserable day. I only had small baitfish nibbling at my packbait. Kent had the only run and lost it. Worst moment of the fishing day was when a moron jonboater drifted over our lines then he started his outboard and clipped one of longcaster Kent's lines, then he changed directions and clipped Kent's second line. We all got better acquainted with plenty of time to talk. Thank goodness we all had brought some shade that we could share. I think we all got a bit dehydrated even though we drank a lot of water.

The worst part of the day for me happened after the fishing. On the way home on the interstate, a heavy thunderstorm helped me to hydroplane into the median. My truck was stuck in the ditch in the median and a $55.00 dollar tow got me out. I have dents in my truck and bruises on my elbows but we are both still functioning. I am thankful for the kindness of strangers with cellphones.

First off I am glad to see you are okay. Second, even though our day SUCKED BIG TIME, the 4 of us had fun. Anytime I am on the bank with people like Bri, you can't help but have a good laugh.

Glad you're ok Charlie and sorry to hear about the dents. That is a really nice truck you have I was admiring it the last time we fished together.
