So… Time to announce the CAGI'07 national winners… band.gif

But first, as usual, some stats on the overall event:
• 16 venues/states, 351 participants, largest CAG event ever by far!
• More than 550 carp caught, for more for 4800 pounds total
• Average carp size: 8 pounds and 4 ounces
• Smallest carp: two ounces (several of them, in Queretaro and Michoacan, Mexico)
• Biggest carp: 26-4lb (one in CT -Eric Muse-, one in TN -Wayne Trapp-)

And now the list of national winners:

A few more details about the amazing win of Eric Ames at Lake Onondaga (NYS).

Eric caught no less than 25 carp, four of them twenties up to 23 pounds, for a total weight of 405-3lb... This would be a dream session for anybody, but he pulled this out surrounded by 58 other participants out there! Unbelievable!

As to Marco Koning, well, conditions were really challenging in Missouri. At the same location where the guys caught so many fish last year, with the same schedule (mostly night-fishing), many experienced anglers, yet... only 4 participants out of 17 caught fish... And Marco made a big difference on top-4, which gave him the national win.

Here is Marco on the right side, with super organizer Fred Moret giving him the awards.

Now, another fellow did well in Missouri. Young Adam Roberson fished real hard as well, and the outcome was two junior national awards! Here is a talented young guy.

Let's move to Georgia for a minute now. I gave the news to Horace this afternoon (and he told Pete Ellis), and I think the best is just to quote Horace's response.

QUOTE
Jerome, I don’t understand a thing about the system that you use but this I do know. I know there is no one in the CAG that exemplifies the CAG goals anymore than Pete Ellis. I think he is more deserving than anyone I know but right now, he is shocked, overwhelmed and excited.

Here is a nice mirror Pete caught during this session in GA.

A quick comment on this win. Kevin Hendren used his match-fishing skills to absolutely hammer this venue, catching no less than 23 carp, and many of them very small. This played in Pete's favor by considerably lowering the average size of the venue! Actually Kevin is the individual who got the highest handicapped score for the big carp, but since he only joined CAG a few days *after* the event, well, Pete got the second best score and the national award! Very cunning move! laugh.gif

Back to juniors. I already mentioned Adam Roberson, but another junior grabbed the big fish award. Andrew Thomas caught a nice 16 pounder in Ontario, and I believe he's our first international winner.

Here is a pic of young Andrew, who clearly made our Ontario friends proud!

A few thousand miles away, Bob Giordano was playing his magy with kids, and young Connor Tarver caught a nice 7-11lb carp on a Scooby Doo rod, and won the corresponding special award.

Moving even more to the West, there was a fly-fishing adventure in Washington state!

Our brave explorers obviously had a lot of fun, albeit not so many fish, but Keith Meyers did catch one, and this was enough to make him the very first winner of the CAGI fly-fishing challenge ever!

I'll have to wait for Jim Pankiewicz to post a proper pic of Keith Meyers, but here is the winning carp!

Finally, going South in this big trip over North America, let's stop of course in Texas... Where Chad Edwards and team faced a severe flooding at Emma Long, but did catch a few nice carp. Oh, and Waldo.

Who is Waldo? Well, a better question is of course "Where is Waldo (the catfish)"... and this made for the winner of the goofy pic award, namely Chad Edwards! laugh.gif

Attached Image

As a side note, even more to the south, the guys in Mexico did extremely well in their three states (Queretaro, Michoacan, Nuevo Leon), and let's just say that if not for the fact that most participants were guests, quite a few of the top scores (with the handicap formula) would have been anglers in Mexico!

And now, numerous acknowledgments are in order...

The CAGI volunteer team:
• Regional Organizers (USA): Neil Stern and Jackie French (AR), Bob Giordano (CO), Mike Dragone (CT), Philip Crouchman and Horace LaFavor (GA), Sam Snow (IL), Harry Goodliffe and Fred Moret (MO), Steve Ware and Al Daher (NYS), Phil Davenport and Shawn Woerlein (OH), Matt Coll and Louis Cook (PA), Wayne Trapp (TN), Chad Edwards (TX), Jim Pankiewicz (WA).
• Regional Organizers (Canada and Mexico): Len Perdic, Adam Ross and Jason McBride (Ontario), Mario Kok and José Arellano (Nuevo León), Jorge de la Peña and Oscar González (Querétaro), Salvador Castanedo (Michoacán).
• Jim Sugihara, our skilled Webmaster and great t-shirt designer. And Dean Dalby, CAGI artist!
• My wife, Edith Moisand, who provided invaluable support all along, and my son Felix who patiently helped assembling the (16!) CAGI kits.
• Last but not least, the 351 participants across an amazing 16 states/provinces

Many thanks to our generous sponsors of regional awards. Wacker Bait & Tackle provided flavors & bait and Missouri Bait Works provided a great e-book for regional winners for all venues, in addition to local sponsors too numerous to list.

Finally, a very special thank you to Angler's Art Taxidermy (Dennis Murawska), Nature Vision (Cory Schmidt), K-1 Boilies (Wayne Trapp), DAM International (Tim De Groot), Resistance Tackle (Andy Phinn), Angling Solutions (Iain Sorrell) and Carp Wizard (Bernie Orwin) for their sponsorship of the event for the national awards.

To finish, maybe a few more numbers from my big Excel sheet... Every year, some venues do well, some venues not so well... Such is fishing life... Here are a few factoids from the most successful venues of ths year.

* New York and Ontario had the most carp (99 and 84, respectively), as well as the most anglers (59 and 40)
* The states which had the best ratio carp/anglers were Georgia (61/12), Michoacan (48/10), and Tennessee (34/8)
* Average sizes varied widely between venues (a whooping 17-15lb in CT) down to... er... slightly less than 1 pound (!) in Michoacan (and 2 pounds in GA).
* Average total-weight (and top-4): Tennessee ruled (more than 62 pounds, nice)
* Overall largest total weight, an impressive 1424lb for New York!

Bottomline: a lot of diversity between our various venues, and great "carping across North America". smile.gif
