Hi all,

Just thought I would update you all on our FFF adventure. Our family (myself, Chris [age 16], Sarah [age 13] and my lovely and talented wife Michelle [who remains ageless from last year]) set off at 1PM on the 31st to our traditional FFF venue. The day started with a home plumbing disaster (drain line broke in the basement) and a carp-gear laden car that would not start - and continued in that vein for the rest of the trip! After checking into a hotel (my wife does not camp in 20 degree weather), I went to bait up out swim and returned to the room to tie some bread flies (I was hoping to tempt a few carp to the surface with bread and go for one on the fly rod). Chris and I returned to the swim at 11:30PM and got set up - hoping for first fish of the year. We sat up all night waiting for the first fish - with one good run at 4AM (which I missed). Finally, I pulled in a 1 lb blue cat at about 6:50AM. Chris wandered off to the car to warm up. Just as I started to unhook the cat, another alarm started screaming. I set the hook and cranked it in with little fight - I thought - another small cat. Much to my surprise, it turned out to be a 15 lb 2 oz linear mirror carp (take that Neil smile.gif )! We fished until 2PM - pulling in a total of 4 more carp. I never got to employ my bread flies as there were no clooping carp to be seen. Not as good as previous years but at least we did not get skunked!

Our full results are below:

Water temp = 47 degrees

Rob: 15 lb 2 oz linear mirror @ 7AM (our first carp of 2010!)

Chris: 11 lb 2 oz common @ 7:50AM  +  8 lb 14 oz common @ noon = total weight of 20 lb 9 oz

Sarah: 8 lb 10 oz common @ 8:20 AM  +  17 lb 15 oz common @ 10:55AM = total weight of 26 lb 9 oz

We can hardly wait for next year smile.gif (ONLY 361 days left...).

I will post pics when I have then gathered together – they are on 3 different cameras right now.

Hope you all had a good FFF!

Rob

Congrats on the mirror Rob. The cold front certainly slowed the carp down.

Well, they bit good for Zoomie on Thursday while it was still warm(8 carp in 4-5 hours). Then on Friday as the cold wind picked up, the bite dropped off and it took 15 hours for Zoomie to catch 8 carp.
