We had the great honor today to have Miguel, the famous NJ angler, pay us a visit in MA and accompany us in his first attempt to catch a carp in MA!

We had planned for me to do the driving, for Vinny to do the pre-baiting, and for Miguel and Sarah (Vinny's dear friend) to have an exciting time... Well, this is exactly what happened! With an unexpected bonus! Here is the story...

Once we reached the Merrimack (Lowell, Tsongas arena), it took approximately 10 minutes for Miguel to catch his first MA carp. And no more than half an hour to land two more, including this nice 15 pounder. I was quite impressed, notably seeing that Miguel used boilies and M'mack carp are not exactly used to boilies!

The second part of the plan was for Sarah to catch her very first carp. Well, a few minutes after Miguel landed his 15 pounder, I saw Sarah's rod tipping, and here she was at work. With a bit of supervision from Vinny, the carp was quickly subdued, directed to the net in a very professional way, and landed!

So great news, guys, we have our very first LADY CARP ANGLER in MA! Yeah! smile.gif

After this impressive demonstration of skills of the Miguel+Sarah team, the carp obviously got quite scared and left the area in a hurry!

After some period of inactivity, we had the pleasure to meet with a true carp fly-fisherman! Quite a surprise, I had no idea we had such a specimen in MA! rolleyes.gif

James was kind enough to show us how to proceed, he makes flies which look like a piece of bread, and he's definitely catching! Not today though, the carp had run away by then... Still, it was great to meet with James, and I will definitely have to try this technique one of these days. happy.gif

Since the carp were too scared to come back, we decided to go try another spot on the Merrimack, the so-called Black Brook. We made a large detour around the poison ivy which bit Scott so hard a few weeks ago, and got settled.

By now, you should have noticed that Vinny and myself, who are supposed to be seasoned MA anglers, didn't catch a thing. We were just acting as net-man for Miguel and Sarah... So we worked hard and finally succeeded to land a small one each. Pfew! Honor saved. <_<

As to Miguel, he found a way to land two more (including one a few minutes before leaving, great timing), which allowed us to admire the great golden color carp have on this location.

Overall, a great day, nicely planned and wonderfully executed! smile.gif And great weather in addition! smile.gif

Man Miquel you are getting alot of weekend passes. Gonna be working overtime for that Wal-Mart cash for the missus. Congrats to the young lady as well. Took my wife out today and had a fish in minutes, loads preparing to spawn soon. She seemed like she actually enjoyed it - rolleyes.gif .

Yes, I remember that, but your wife and mother aren't CAG members, are they? Well, Sarah became a CAG member tonight... This is what I meant.

Darn! You're right, Joe! Sarah is indeed from VT and CAG-registered as such. But at least she's fishing in MA so far, so we have our first lady CAG member fishing in MA...

And yes, Sarah, you'll catch bigger ones (in MA or in VT). Probably next week-end is my guess! wink.gif You have a good professor with Vinny. fish.gif

It's good to start with a small one then improve your PB step by step... Much more enjoyable!
