Folks,

I've spent a good part of the day at the CAGI location in MA, Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield, MA.

Well, if anybody had any doubt this lake is full of carp, think again. I've explored at least 8 different locations on each side of the lake, and believe or it, I eye-sighted carp in each of them (jumping or roaming or surface-feeding). Close to shore, farther away, everywhere!

I took various pictures of the lake from various angles, you can find then on this Yahoo Photo gallery.

I didn't fish that much (was busy scouting and speaking with locals), but here is a nice catch, a proud fish! Gav Riddell was also fishing out there and did quite well today.

Here is the contour and depth map of the lake.

Forget the comments from the DFW guys, they are quite obsolete...

If you follow Main Street, you'll find the center of the town, and a lot of restaurants and pharmacies (Walgreen, CVS). Restaurants including Dunkin Donuts and McDonald for those of you addicted... <_<

And... for those of you traveling... Either you find an accomodating lodger in MA, or... you have an hotel right on the lake (and a good spot, with lily pads and a river outflow, I saw carp roaming and jumping out there as well).

Here is some advertisement for this very convenient Best Western. Price is reasonable, 80$ + tax.

Somebody asked me "what about fishing licenses for out-of-staters"?

Good question... Not that we're often checked, but well, it's nice to do it right. rolleyes.gif

You can find the answer on this DFW Web page. And yes, you can order online.

Ok to fish overnight there? How far is the nearest bar/liquor store?

Yes, there is at least one easy to find liquor store in the center of the town. It's half a mile from the lake.

I know that some of the lake shore areas are closed at night (e.g. close to the church), but Bob is correct, there are other spots where I don't think this would be a problem.

If you're staying at the motel I described, then I'm pretty sure it's no issue to fish the shore behind it late at night. But somehow, I suspect this isn't your plan...

I don't know about camping areas. Let's swap e-mails, so that we can find a way to accomodate you.

To keep you guys out of dirty bars on Saturday night, and also for logistical reasons, my wife decided to slightly change the plan. <_<

So instead of having a picnic on Quann, we'll all converge to my home (in Arlington, 30 minutes from Wakefield) where Edith will have made dinner for all of you ravenous guys...

You will probably see some (fishy!) decorating as well, she's pretty good at it -- among many other qualities, first at all, to have selected me as the proud husband! tongue.gif...

Kids will have the priority if they want to play with the Xbox, though... No, Scott, you don't qualify as a kid, although sometimes I wonder... laugh.gif

We'll give you directions in the mysterious "participant's envelope"... that is, if you make it before 6:30AM (ouch!) in Wakefield...
