So the plan for today was to go fishing with John on the m'mack, and see if he could catch his long awaited first 20 pounder... And the brave anglers woke up very early, and were fishing at 6AM (actually one of the two started at 5AM!)...

And around 10AM, the only "success" the brave anglers had was a big run for Jerome, which went straight to a big snag, and no fish nor terminal tackle at the end... mad.gif

So we decided to move and try another spot. But the god of fathers (the godfather?) was monitoring the two brave anglers, asked the wind to lift the unhooking mat in the air, sent it flying to one of John's rods, and by this magical touch, a run was triggered. Yeak, well, except that the fish unhooked itself... sad.gif Yet this was enough to make us decide to stay a bit longer.

After missing a couple more fish to snags and other troubles, finally the godfather decided to play his master card... Big run on John's rod, very careful play of the fish, I kept telling John "it's an upper teen, not a twenty", then started to lift the net, grunted, and told John "it IS a twenty!". And a twenty it was, more precisely a 23lb Personal Best for John! Happy father's day! blow.gif band.gif

We got quite a few runs in a couple of hours. Snags was plaguing us like crazy (I spent more time rebuilding my terminal rigs than actually fishing with all my rods in the water!). sad.gif

Then the godfather decided that it was not enough. He snapped fingers and two of my rods screamed at the very exact same second! Well organized, each of us took one rod and started to play the fish, while starting to wonder how we'll net them... So the godfather thought "nah, this isn't fun enough", and a third rod (in John's collection) screamed as well... So here I was trying to clumsily deal with two Merrimack steamers... I ended up losing one (the one on my rod), but landed the other, while John had expertly landed his. Nice double. The careful reader will have noticed that we ended up landing our fish on the other angler's rod! rolleyes.gif

And a 19lb for me... Here it is:

We got a few more runs, a few more snags, I spare you the details. I stayed a bit longer than John, trying to catch a 20, but nah, I landed a last one at 15lb, which gave a hell of a fight.

Just one last picture of a carp who obviously got a major headache a few months ago.... blink.gif

Overall, a great father's day... Thank you, godfather! smile.gif

Well Done John

Now your MA best is bigger than mine. ohmy.gif

Have to do something about that after I fly in next week. You going to the Lake Q snapperfest? If so, see you there.

Regards,

Iain

Hi John

Actually, my only carp this year have been in MA (April, with Garry) and France (May). My three UK carp trips so far I've been in non-stop "big-snotty" heaven. sad.gif

See you at the weekend hopefully.

Iain.
