As planned, I spent most of the day fishing the Charles again. The weatherman changed his mind several times, ended up predicting lots of rain and wind, but although it did get seriously wet for a few minutes, he was just plain wrong (as usual), most of the day was great, with minimum wind.

Like last week, small carp were abundant, jumping all over the place, and biting quite easily.

I was enjoying a good time when a rod that I had cast much farther away than usual screamed... And after a nice fight, oh surprise, a 10 pound mirror. Really beautiful, very few scales on the body, and big scales scales on the top.

But... DANG and super DANG... I didn't take the camera...
So I released the fish, and started to fume after my own stupidity...

Yeah, was my very first mirror this year... And my first ever in this section of the Charles...

So I continued to fish, caught a couple more, while still grumbling, and then I had another take, not especially a big run. So I played the fish without paying that much attention, and surprise... a koi!

A completly white (and a bit of orange) fish, absolutely gorgeous! 7 pounds of beauty!

What a beauty... where is my camera? Er... no camera. Where is my cell? Er... No cell phone...

Now you have to understand I never caught a koi before. Never.

I really didn't want to release this koi without a picture. Nor did I want to kill it. I had a large plastic bag, I put the fish into it with water just to think... The bag was leaking...
Ok, so I found a way to put the bag partly in the river, blocked it with a stick, and started to dispair...

I tried to stop people passing by, asking them if they had a cell phone. Yeah, after a while it worked and a nice guy let me make calls. Tried my wife first, ah no, she's eating turkey with friends, I don't have their number. Tried Nick who lives nearby, yes, got him... Aaaarg, he told me he's in Cape Cod... Tried Dom, didn't reach him. Other folks are too far away... What to do?

I was starting to think I needed to wrap all my stuff, let the fish in the water, madly drive to my house, get the camera and come back... When two folks stopped and started to look at my fishing gear... And the lady was carrying a camera... Er, miss, I have a BIG FAVOR to ask you...
And she agreed! Alleluia!

Long story short (well, kind of), I hope to have the pic tonight or tomorrow... I really hope so...

PS. oh, and I caught more than a dozen small commons... Nothing special here... <_<

Congrats Jerome

Pity you couldn't persuade your rescuers to leave their camera behind on the bank when they left..........or is that just an Illinois thing?!!!

Jerome,
Do you actually think I believe that fish story for 1 second....? wink.gif
Nice fish!
Better start dumping some bait in there to fatten up those little commons!
