Neil, I never said it would submit my catch to the big fish award...
Speaking of big fish, I struggled for a while with another amberjack, then while I was reeling it in after it got tired, I had an unexpected run... And suddenly the line felt lighter... And here is what I reeled in...

Knowing that this amberjack head was approximately the same size as the previous one, this tells you something about the size of these sharks having a good lunch at our expense... I actually hooked one (unintentionally), but it cut the line rather quickly with its sharp teeth... Too bad for my first 100 pounder!
Here is one shark that another fishing boat succeeded to land after a gruesome battle.

As to the fact that some of you might have believed for a little while that I had caught a 40 pound carp... The blame is ALL for Iain (aka redcoat) who started it... He's such a big kid...
Now, I'm in troubles with a certain CAG director who even took the time to call me at home (while I was still in Mexico) to congratulate me... Which was very nice of him, notably knowing that his PB is something like 39lb and 8 oz... No, Brian, you are still 7 pounds ahead of me in the carp category... -------------------- Jerome Moisand, Arlington MA

nice fish jerome when i lived in florida i used to fish for amberjacks. great fighting fish . In order to keep away from the sharks you have to fish the "hemingway style" which is get em into the boat as fast as possible. Hemingway used to shoot at the sharks with a tommy gun as he was reeling in other fish

Those are some awesome pics!!! Can you imagine trying to practice catch and release with a shark?! I don't think he'd fancy someone sticking their hand in his mouth to take out the hook
