Man what a blast!
3 days cold weather hard core carpin!
Lots of fish and lots of fun!
A big THANK YOU to Gilbert for coming up with this idea, I already got it penciled in for next year. Thanks to the other Indiana Carpers; Rick (carpiohunter), Bob, Charlie (carpinator), Stan (sgeidel) and Doyle (Indiana Rookie) for their Hoosier Hospitality! It was also my pleasure to share the bank with Buckeye Bob representing Ohio and as always I enjoyed time spent fishing with my fellow Illinoisan and CAG chair Bill Hodge.

Let me tell you something, these guys know how to fish. Charlie, Rick and Bob all frequent the Indiana Paylakes. Their experience, techniques, baits and tenacity show. I learned a lot from these guys. All of them are willing to help and share tips.

I have witnessed, used and heard others tell of the Texas Whip technique but I gotta say it’s slow motion compared to the Indiana whip. I swear there were times I could see a jet stream behind Bob’s rod. While fishing with Rick and Bob on that cold and windy Saturday night all I had to do was listen on either side of me for the whip of the rod as my signal to get the net.

Charlie’s “white bucket” is the real thing; he is an expert on packbaits and an excellent angler. Gilbert is the quintessential “tackle tart” and gracious host. It’s always great to see a fellow “doughballer” be successful. Doyle calls himself the “Indiana Rookie” but don’t let him fool ya! He’s been carpin’ for several years and has it down pat.

One of our tasks for the weekend was to convince him to join the CAG, which was very easy. All we had to do was threaten to push him into the water if he didn’t join (can you say…. extortion?) Stan was knocking ‘em dead from the bridge. More than once he had 2 fish on and one time he got 3. He knows his stuff!

Although he struggled the first day (all cats and no carp) Bill Hodge came through in true Illinois Chair form on day 2. (I think I “jinxed” him on day 1 when I bragged to everyone about his angling skills.) Buckeye Bob came later the first afternoon visited a bit, scouted the area and then proceeded to catch more fish than almost everyone else did all day….quite an angler.

All in all a great 3 days with a great bunch of guys….now I have another reason to look forward to the Thanksgiving Holiday….and another thing to be thankful for!

The hardest of the hardcore Rick and Bob.... the 3 of us spent the entire 3 days (and nights) at Turtle Creek

My 1st "snow carp" (9lb)

As many of you know I try my darndest to keep things as simple as possible. I believe this is the epitome of simplicity
My "Fred Flinstone" rod pod.
If anyone wants one of these please contact me I can make 'em pretty cheap but ....you pay the freight :D

Although we held our own and represented the Great State of Illinois very well, there were times when Bill and I were run ragged netting fish for the others. We got so good at it that Bill decided we should put our services up for hire on a website called www.illinoisnetboys.net ;o)
