About the Champion of the Queen

Champion of the Queen

Since the beginning of CAG, the Carp Anglers Group “Champion of the Queen” award (sometimes referred as “Protector of the Queen” award) has been used to acknowledge exceptional achievements in promoting CAG and carp angling in North America.

It is so called after Izaak Walton author of the Complete Angler (1653) described the Carp as the "Queen of Rivers": a Stately, Good and very Subtle Fish.

First awarded in 1995 it continues to recognize those who have given their support to CAG over the years and the promotion of Carp Angling in North America.

 - Nomination Process, & Award -

The Champion of the Queen is nominated by the CAG President and Vice-President. We may have one or two “champions” per year.

Suggestions for possible champions are welcome from any CAG member. Please contact cagstaff@carpanglersgroup.com to do so.

The award is delivered to the winner(s) at the CAG plenary meeting, in September, during the CCC if possible.

The winner will also receive an honorary lifetime membership to CAG
