We couldn't have order better weather for the Dixon Carp Derby for 2017. The consistent reps in the low 70's f and we lower water helped to kind of soothe the river and turn some of the less fished spots into real Hot Spots...

	FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It is with great sadness I am having to announce that this year's DIXON CARP DERBY will not be held in the same manor on September 9th and 10th. A emergency health issue of a close family member, combined with the timing of this year's event had made it impossible to run the event in the manor and to the level of detail that we have over the last seven years. This unfortunate situation was sudden and not something that could be planned for and although it was my desire to put on the event to a level I am known for and to a level you deserve as loyal anglers, my family situation requires the focus of my effort, and time that normally I could focus on the Dixon Carp Derby and the days leading up to it.

In speaking with Becky Reilly, my contact with the City and Tourism, it was agreed that it would be best to not proceed with the event as planned and without the level of prize support that has normally been part of this event and allowed for the multiple divisions and large cash prizes.

I share the sadness many will have for having to change plans and hope that you all understand.

The permits are still active and a number of my volenteers and I have offered to come out and hand out donated prizes and the already secured tackle prizes, and run a more fun friendly "Social" derby to help keep the torch alive for next year....and to offer moral support those who decide to still come out and fish that weekend. We hope you will still come out and fish this FREE event. Think of it more of a "POT-LUCK" CARP DERBY and any donated items (even homemade) would be used to make up the prizes for the big fish...but mostly to have fun and for everyone to get together and see each other once again and hopefully to find some folks to work to bring the event back bigger than ever next year.

Discussion will take place in the near future on the continuation of a Dixon Carp Derby for 2018, and We will keep you all informed. Again, thank you for your understanding and hope that you take the time to continue enjoying the fishing with your families and friends on the beautiful Rock River Riverfront in Downtown Dixon Illinois.

As of now there are alot of changes happening in the City of Dixon. A new Mayor, the push to create one City Marketing Tool from the many current Promotional organiziations.

If you attended the 2015 Dixon Carp Derby awards ceremony you are were made aware of the challenges for the 2016 year and the reality of the situation.

After speaking with the Park District Director we have set aside the dates of August 19-21, 2016 and August 26-28, 2016as the two possible weekends that the event will happen.

At this time the funding is still being discussed.....including the possibility of a having four 26 hour overnight events limited in size (12 to 16 teams/ind.) to raise awareness, to spur more local involvement and to raise funds for the 2016 Dixon Family Carp Derby. The Parks Department has made a special facility available to run these events.

I have been in touch with the Interim City Director and have been informed the City is Still behind the event and he is working to help push the event forward.....GOOD NEWS!!!

SO MARK YOUR CALENDERS !!!

I will post updates as they become available and narrow in on the specific weekend the event will happen.

Was out to the Rock on Saturday to drop off posters and check the area out for event pre-conditions.

Water levels are just below average and slower than normal current. Has not been significant rain for awhile. Fish have been biting and Ray at Bunnie's says fishing g has been good. With the slower water the deep spots and main river chanel should be good producers if things stay about the same. You may need to plan for a little mud along the Page Park area....but the low water may leave the small island exposed for fishing from.

Well alot changed this year.....kind of last minute

The first as many people knew was that the cash prizes had been eliminated by the city which had donated them in the past. They had planed to shut down the whole event but randy from Troop #61 convinced the board that shutting a 27 year running event was a mistake even with the Montgomery Festival going $7,000.00 over last years budget and the low turn out with last years heat and low water......they couldn't justify the spending So instead they had trophys made up.

The second was that the BoyScout Troop had no members!!! They All have grown up.....so the money raised was being donated to a Boys and Girls Club in the area.........

The third and the strangest ........Not one Choine Brother, Chione sister or friend of a Choine (a dominating force at that venue) Fished the event......and if you think that was odd....Not One CAG member either...........It was strange and very civil (LOL)

Alot of local regulars and a huge amount of new anglers were waiting at 5:30 to sign up,. 58 total (up almost 20 from last year!) With the mood split even on disappointment about no cash and happy about new trophys. It was aslower bite with good fish.......Most anglers showed with aerated bins and their own keep sacks, that was kind of cool to see. Fish came in all day. And alot of old faces fished with their kids and grandkids. And they were teaching the kids catch and release too!!!

The seven trophys showed up mid event......turns out one of the trustees has a shop......and he cut the city a deal.......they were spectacular with really nice engraving......the Champions troghy was over 3' tall and dwarfed the winners 1yr old he was holding when he accepted the trophy on stage......Yeah Stage! Feeling bad about the they did it up grand.......There were bands back to back with about 1200 watching and they stopped the bands and had the awards ceramony on the big stage .....it was pretty cool for the winners and a little un-nerving to be in front of that many focused people. I'll admit it was really nice and heart felt.

Anyway.....on to the results.....

Could use a few more experienced weigh stewards for a very fun amature event. We will be camping out and I will be ordering pizza we usually fish the Friday and saturday night for Carp and Catfish. Great situation for those wanting to promote local leagues they may be putting on or a local event, as a way to mutually promote carp fishing and tourism . Product manufacturers, re-sellers and dealers would need to be sponsors, and be approved by the promoter....ME! to market goods or services at the event.

As a favor for helping out I can offer up to 3 or 4 good stewards, each a brand new digital Rueben Heatin Scale (60#) for helping .
