  1. Alan, I do understand what you are saying.  There was even a time where a certain person said that there were no real fisherman's on this forum.  No talent.  I won't go into detail why it was said.  I even printed out that page and may still have it somewhere.  It wasn't nice to say.  But its in the past.

I would like to see some old members come back, more members and keep growing even more.  If long island didn't have so many meat eaters and fished out lakes, I would expand CAG to long island by doing fish in's but its not worth it.  Ed did an amazing job handling NY and the fish in's in queens, NY.
  2. cannonball, go ahead.  Looking at the pic, I am to the "right" of ed with the green sweater.  Nigel, the man who basically started all this, is all the way to the left.  The guys in that pic are the originals.  The talent in that picture is crazy.  Not one amateur angler in that picture.  Id like a copy of that newsletter if you do it.

  3. was going through some of my pictures and found this one.  To this day, it was the best trip I ever had.  I am posting bc I am seeing the forum getting little action.  It used to be active but, facebook and so on, kind of took over.  But, if it wasn't for this forum, I would have never met these top notch anglers and create memories.  Learn more about carp fishing.  This was all bc of CAG.  This forum.

My good friend ed wagner called me up and said hey, we have a private fish in, come along.  You will fish with some great anglers.  I didnt sleep that night lol.

I met some top carp anglers.  I even had the pleasure to fish with nigel.  The man, the myth, the legend.  I fished next to him for the last part of our trip.  And if you look at the second pic, you will see HALF OF OUR GEAR lol !!  That wasnt even all of it.  we had two boats worth lol.  CAG ROCKS.

  4. yea you can use them as bank sticks.  They are just fatter than regular bank sticks.

The rod butts just lay on the ground just as you would fishing with a single bank stick.  Think of this setup as  bank sticks that you can use anywhere, even on concrete or on a dock.

I own this setup, bank sticks, rod pods, etc.  But I am trying to go back to the simple times and lighter.  Because honestly, all this carp gear, I do love it, its a drug, but its ruining my fishing sessions bc I have a lot of stuff.

Just like in the world of modifying cars, I went too far and went down the slippery slope.  You just dont enjoy it as much.  we all watch those carp fishing shows on youtube and envision ourselves fishing that swim,  with certain pods, setups, having 50 bags, etc.  90% of the videos we watch are uk carp anglers that have special lakes made for them, clean swims, flat land, and a road to carry your gear on a BARROW.  where I fish, I cant use a barrow.  we, fish wild waters.

  5. Make sure you invest in alarms.  I am an ex match angler.  so I never used alarms.  Once I got into dedicated carp fishing, they were a must have.  I am usually making pva bags, mixing my pack or method mix, spodding, etc.  I keep busy on the bank.  I dont just sit around and wait for a bite.  You need alarms.  life saver.

  6. Let me also give you a little tip.  I had my system down pat.  I kinda went off the deep end, and went tackle crazy.  Due to a torn shoulder from being a bodybuilder and a bad back, I am going back to my old fishing setup and going light.

If you want a simple, cheap, setup that you can take on a huge river, big lake, little lake, sand, gravel, and pack away easily, be versatile, then you get these items.  I learned about this setup from my good friend, NY state chairman, ed wagner.

Three fox storm poles. Longer the better.  Make sure you get the long ones.

    One buzz bar

One gardner tripod adaptor.  All these items are available at big carp tackle.  More versatile and easier than this, it wont happen.  It can all be packed away in your quiver.

Here  you can see it in action.  Yo can go to any swim and adapt to the terrain.  even go over a fallen tree.  I believe this was mikes dragones setup at the CDDW back in 06.  This is what I am using now.

  7. You can get cheaper pods.  You dont need a cygnet.  some of those cost 300 dollars.  I have a cygnet and honestly, for the money, I am not impressed.  My prologic pods were cheaper and are made better.  Its up to you if its worth it.

  8. If there is a venue I want to target, that I never fished before and I will be fishing it on a sunday lets say, I will prebait on mon, wed, maybe just a little on a friday and thats it. Usually particles. sweet corn, hemp, thats it. maybe some chopped up boilies if I am going to use them. The day I fish, mostly start to chum the water with ground bait with little particles. Nothing wild. I tend to go back to my match fishing roots. Love groundbait to bait up a swim.

Then again, it depends on the swim. some places I dont even need to prebait or chum up. You just catch. Also, the head of carp in the water matters as well. when I fished the cddw event in CT, these guys were chumming lbs and lbs of bait and just hauled. I never saw so much bait being put in one spot. But they told me, there's just huge schools of fish, when they see the chum, there like vacuums. Its gone within minutes.

Just remember, you can ALWAYS PUT BAIT IN, BUT NOT OUT. so don't go wild if your not sure about the swim. Im no pro, so maybe others will chime in.

  9. Great job Guys! What a great experience. Good Luck.

    Bob--- Thx for updates.

It is a experience. I wish I was able to do something like that. Back when I was a little kid, I would fish so called "pay lakes" in Italy. Stocked with trout. Some had carp and other species but mostly trout. I would watch the italian fishing teams all dressed up in there attire, spotless gear and just tear it up.I would be in awe. They would go there to practice for tournaments and test out different methods. I always wanted to be on a fishing team and compete. My forte is still match fishing even though I switched over to carp fishing.
