  1. I was thinking of you guys ALL week-end!!!

Looks like it's been one hellowa week-end!!!

Did anybody try the Steam Plant side this week-end?

Did the rock pier show snags? Did they fish the "bay" or towards the channel from the rock pier?

Congrats on that new PB Charlie. I hope to get me some biguns in 3 weeks. I only have 4 days to try get something for the BIG 4. :D

No one tried the steamplant side, but we would have if more people had showed up. It is a long walk to get out on the grassy point.

I am sure there are some snags around the pier also, but they may not be visible. I believe they fished more toward the channel.

Thanks Willem. Saw a few turtles already near shore. Fish deeper water to try to avoid the turtles.

  2. Bigbird kept us laughing when we were not fighting fish. Bigbird is not shy about talking to anyone even non carp fishermen who make errant casts into trees. "Fishing for squirrels?", was something I believe I heard. Bigbird even talked to the carp!post-1716-0-39185800-1304902469.jpg

The buffs took our baits too. Here is a double that Bigbird and I had.post-1716-0-53122800-1304902618.jpg

Brad managed to avoid them. Bigbird also caught a strange one which might have been a bigmouth buff. I hope he can post it up.

We stayed and fished for awhile after dark and were rewarded with a couple of special fish. Brad caught this nice chunk of carp that had muddler scales all over its body.post-1716-0-52534500-1304902906.jpg

Bigbird landed this small mirror with very few scales.post-1716-0-43454400-1304903007.jpg

The guests we invited failed to show up. I need to plan and announce the fish-ins further in advance. But bad weather and a heavy work schedule makes it difficult to plan ahead.

  3. Kingston is alive and well as our fish-in proved Saturday. Birbird arrived at the site Friday night and began fishing beside the bridge. By the time I arrived Saturday morning, Bigbird had netted 10 fish and lost about that many others. It is tough battling and netting these strong fish when one is alone, especially in the dark. There are snags and bridge pilings which we have to deal with and recent flooding may have added more snags. Despite the snags, we are sure that the 5 anglers participating landed at least 50 fish.

Vasi and Pavel(Nashville CAGers) were the next anglers to arrive. They decided to set up on the rock pier.post-1716-0-00111700-1304899876.jpg

Brad soon arrived and he set up near Bigbird.

Using some of the same K-1 baits which I had chummed the area with previously gave us some action quickly. I had spooned in some pineapple ice cream boilies whil prebaiting and Bigbird had caught on those during the night. The K-1 raspberry ripple flavored corn also worked a charm.

The first fish of the morning were small. I caught a buff and a small carp under 10 lbs. Bigbird and the Nashville guys also landed some smaller carp.

My third fish of the day struck luckily while I was near my rods. I was fishing near a visible snag where another fish had broken my line the previous weekend. This fish was slow to move and fought like a bulldog to stay on the bottom of the lake. When I had gotten him halfway in he turned to my left and plowed toward the shallows of the bay. I was glad to be fighting this fish with a 12 foot rod because the length was necessary to keep my line out of the limbs of a tree growing on the bank. With some good rod pressure the carp slowly wore down and I pulled him back from the shallows. Brad netted him for me, and I was sure I had a nice fish for the Big Four contest. This beautiful fat common was more than that. At 28 pounds 15 ounces it was also a PB for me. My previous PB was 28 even.post-1716-0-82872800-1304901091.jpg

I will also apply to the TWRA for a certificate on this trophy size fish.

We seemed to catch larger fish at the bridge for the morning then afternoon the pier produced some larger carp. Vasi and Pavel were catching some upper teens while we watched from across the bay. When we saw both of them carrying a netted fish to the mat I knew I needed to get over to their swim to take a photo. Vasi had landed this beautiful 22-1 pound mirror!post-1716-0-46256500-1304901506.jpg

The action was a little slower by the bridge but we kept catching. Here is one of Brad's giant fish.post-1716-0-85009100-1304901871.jpg

Late in the afternoon, I managed another carp to add to the Big Four contest. This one weighed 17-5.post-1716-0-01994300-1304902098.jpg

  4. I see- It's the parentheses in your file name. Try renaming them something with just letters and numbers. It's a good idea to stay away from spaces on the web as well.

Sorry for the difficulty, and I appreciate the quick response!

Thanks Louis. I changed the file names and resubmitted the entries and photos. My gallery shows up now.

  5. Perhaps,

What kind of images did you upload? Could you post them here?

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble!

    Louis

I thought I "uploaded" 2 resized(640x480) fish photos of about 80kb each. The form doesn't have an "upload" or "attach" button to click, it has a "save" button. These are the photos I thought I uploaded.post-1716-0-34739500-1304348806.jpg

  6. Clicking on a name on the leaderboard supposed to show that person's photos. When I click on my name I get blank boxes but with the fish weights underneath. All the other peoples' photos show up when I click on their names. Did I do something wrong?

  7. Any of you guys ever fished Melton Hill, below the dam?

Yes I have. I have only caught small ones(under 12 lbs) but have seen a couple of maybe upper teen size carp jump there. It is difficult to bottom fish below Melton Hill Dam when the dam is generating. I have only caught when the generators were off.

  8. The steam plant side has been open for a few weeks. The dredging is done, and the clean up equipment is gone from the steamplant boat ramp. Saw people on the grassy point while I was there catching fish.post-1716-0-65189100-1303409022.jpg

Mcwrestler couldn't fish April 30th, so I planned for May 7th. As the water heats up the turtles get too active...Willem you will get pestered by turtles for sure at that time. Zoomie do what you have to do to get ready for B'ville, Kingston should be good practice for Brad.

  9. I will bait up our swims at Kingston for a fish-in on May 7th. We can fish around the bridges and across the Clinch River on the grassy point. There is lots of bankspace to fish from on the grassy point. Fishing is good at Kingston, I recently caught 5 teen size carp in 4+ hours with no prebaiting. Here are some Pictures.post-1716-0-27183800-1303399206.jpg
