  1. Like others have said- It's more about location.I catch in water partially iced over. It's tougher but if you are patient and can manage the elements you will eventually be rewarded. I prefer to float fish or use a small PVA stick/ pop up. Good luck.

  2. Only 2 rods?... We can only fish one from land here in Ontario. If I were a 'carp tourist' $$$$ from abroad, I wouldn't blame them for choosing the New York side of the St Lawence over the Ontario side as they have a 3 rod option.

  3. Bolt Rig:Size 7 MR Twister hook// 2 ounce pear lead on a safety clip//

Short, 20 pound Korda N-Trap hooklink.

    One piece Maize

One piece of ESP buoyant corn.

Small PVA stick with oats, egg layer pellets, crushed boillie, marine halibut groudbait.

30.8LB.....This is now my winter PB :D

  4. I arrived at my swim last weekend just after 7AM on a chilly, windy, morning.

After taking a breather from lugging the barrow through the jungle I took a rest and scanned the water for any carpy activity. It didn't take long to spot the odd fish show.

    ...

I then took the spod rod out and put some goodies out about 70-80 meters. I took my time. Afterwards I set up camp and put the rods in by 8:30.

I chose a pop up/ method ball combo on top of the spod.

It wasn't until after lunch time until I had my first run but the hook popped out after a few seconds. Luckily the buzzer went off a few minutes later resulting in a mid teen common

The next fish gave me quite a scrap. I was well happy to see a mid 20 in the net! When I finally managed to get it in through all the chod I was to loose it on the bank because while I dashed over to get the scales It flopped back into the water. I had my mat at the waters edge. My own fault. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry LOL.

I went on to catch 7 all together. Most were on pop up's. It's such a nice place to fish. Very peaceful and quiet. My only criticism would be the amount of off the leash dog walkers who seem to think have the right to let they're dogs run through your swim and eating anything you don't have hidden ( including spod/ method). Any rigs left open that have bait attached would be nasty if inhaled by the hounds from hell. The sign at the gate states " Dogs must strictly be leashed". I suppose the same dog owners are above the law. "It's all fun and games" as they say...

Anyway. The weather gods forecast rain by the early evening so I ended the session around 530 in order to drive home in the daylight and on a dry road. Dogs aside, it was a enjoyable, satisfying day out.
